How much should we expand special programs? 1% of students are currently enrolled in them. Should it be 3%? 5%? 10%? 20%? If you admit everyone who meets the minimum criteria, the program will be no more rigorous or selective than if you randomly select students from a pool of all students who meet the minimum criteria. |
If MCPS can't serve the entire county with resources equally - end the programs. Period. |
And this also means not punishing mid-county kids with 1+ hour bus rides. |
Tall poppy |
The programs aren't the issue but they should require parents to provide transportation. And, they should not allow famlies outside the DCC to attend Blair as they have their own schools with much better offerings. Instead, expand it and make more offerings at all schools. |
LOL. Race to the bottom, MCPS staff. |
Inequality initiative? |
Parents are forced to drive their kids to different schools all the time. A few years ago I had to drive mine daily for a math class while kids at other schools got buses. Thankfully a few of us carpooled but it was a pain. |
And for Parkland, Loiederman, etc for their lottery parents had to drive their kids. I think they just started providing a bus, but we had to turn it down due to transportation. |
So....do you favor an Uber stipend for students with need, or just make it so that such programs remain relatively infeasible for them to attend? |
What was the reason why some kids got buses and others didn’t? Was it the distance between your house and the school where the math class was held? |
+1. I guess they don't realize where most of the Blair Magnet students boosting their rep come from? |
No idea. Parents should not be required to transport during school hours. |
Provide buses or offer the opportunity at all schools so kids don’t need to go to other schools. |
We all know there are more qualified kids than slots in magnet or special programs. |
