Seriously why does everyone keep talking about snow days? No one cares. |
I agree with you 100% but I once worked for a company that expected you to work from home on snow days or you had to use vacation! Would the fed gov't do that? |
Of course. Or just fire you for being AWOL if you fail to submit leave. |
They do that now! That's the deal with having a telework agreement. |
This…is what the government does. And if you have young kids, you are also “allowed” to work from home without childcare, except that if you are performing childcare you must use PTO. And no, there is no guidance on what this means. I have a 18 month old, we live in a small apartment and both of us work outside the home normally. The two snow days were perhaps the worst two days of parenting so far lol. (Well, it wasn’t helped that for the first half of the day I thought I had access to admin leave). The fact we expected this of parents during the lockdowns is insane! |
This is what the government does as part of a telework agreement. But if the eliminate telework is it fair to ask us to use our home resources on a snow day? |
Our leadership emphasized a few months ago there is a difference between providing childcare like feeding and changing diapers for an infant vs simply being in the home where children are present. So I put movies on for my kids in another room during the last snow day when they weren't outside in the front yard. |
Why do you think this administration cares about fairness or workability on your end? They hate you. They want to punish you. |
The lockdowns were NUTS. I shudder remembering the time before we were able to get a babysitter. They seemed to like telework then though! Sigh. |
| I don't like that it has been radio silence so far today, apparently from all departments and agencies. It feels like they're going to drop something awful right at COB. |
We’ve been told telework is not work. If I must be in the office to work, and it’s not safe to get to the office, then I can’t work. (Not my logic; it’s theirs.) |
You know it. 5-530 pm. Everyone butts in seats starting X date (hopefully not Monday but prepare for the worst). Work with your manager on challenges. They may provide an email or website for questions. Town hall next week. |
DP. No. If work can only be done in the office, so be it. I’m not going to maintain my WFH set-up with multiple monitors and a docking station if I only need it for the occasional snow day. |
We all know they will have their cake and eat it too. They won’t tell you to telework but will impose demands that requires off the clock telework. Like true capitalists. |
That’s the expectation. They have until 5pm and I suspect most agencies need all of that time to get it figured out and to be able to address as many questions as they can in the communication (e.g. what happens to remote people beyond 50 miles, medical accommodations, hired under a remote agreement, etc). I bet a LOT of people will stay online late today! I feel bad for supervisors who are going to be inundated. |
