Can I sue Callie Oettinger?

This is a FERPA violation for which FCPS will be punished ….again. They’re already on the radar of Virginia Department of Education and the feds for doing this exact same thing. We wait and watch. Lawyer up again if you want to. Unless you can specifically identify your child in what was posted, I’d save my money. (Doesn’t hurt to call and ask though…and I’m doing that.)

Thanks, Callie

I’m not Callie.

I guess some people find it hard to believe there are others that disagree with a 3Billion tax payer funded enterprise accidentally sharing info on 30,000 students. A few, maybe, but 30,000. Come on. But then again, look at the people you elected to FCPS school board.

Do you honestly not understand that we can have great disregard for FCPS and still think that woman is a crazy witch? Why is that so difficult?

Sue the victim; great idea. Not the $3B enterprise ran by weirdos that gives away your student's data with no regard for confidentiality.

Perhaps your kids are all suffering from anxiety because you’re their mom and completely disconnected from reality. Also, FCPS is corrupt and incompetent. As a former teacher, I can tell you that they’re all laughing at you. And this woman Callie exposed their weakness and you’re too stupid to figure it out.

Why do you feel need to start insulting others? Zero people are defending FCPS. We know their wrong doings. We’re talking about Callie. She could have been exposing the county, but decided to expose our children in the process. Shes just another angry white women and I hope she gets hers soon. Frankly, you just sound bitter and I’m glad you no longer work with the county.

That’s OK sweetheart. I’m making a ton of money off the fact that the school system closed its doors for over a year. Most of you don’t even realize that your kids are behind academically because you’re too afraid to see the truth. I see you. You’re just a basic, white, upper middle-class mom wearing Lululemon and drinking Starbucks coffee. And I get paid a lot of money per hour to fix what FCPS broke.

You describe yourself as someone who exploits parents instead of caring about children or doing the moral, ethical thing. You are what is wrong with the advocacy system. You are why professionals don’t want to work for school systems. You feed fear, lies, and disinformation to desperate families to make a buck or get publicity. You are a lousy, despicable person as are the other “advocates” I know. Absolutely horrific.

I'm not the prior poster but you are outing yourself as a school employee.

I have worked with many advocates through my child's educational career and not a single one of them "feed fear, lies, and disinformation..." Wanna know who did? The school system. Teachers and admins routinely made up state laws, policies etc just to get out of providing services and accommodations to my kid. I have seen so much unprofessional behavior and dishonesty from the school system that I have an intrinsic distrust of teachers and admins. So many of them, especially special ed staff, are ignorant about the disabilities they are supposed to be educated about. My kid was abused by teachers and I know several other kids who were treated worse. There was never any accountability by the school system. We filed complaints and prevailed and nothing changed.

Where I am students with disabilities get screwed over if you do not have an advocate.

This is true but she still didn't handle it well

She’s a lot of things, but victim is not one of them.

FCPS made an error. She intentionally victimized THOUSANDS of FCPS parents/students.

Can I ask how you know specifically what information about your child was released? We got a letter but we have no idea exactly what was released.

I live in Massachusetts and I wish this was national news, because our public schools are just as leaky

@Callie because you're obviously reading all of these, it's a shame you're too stupid to understand the simple fact that two wrongs don't make a right.

I absolutely think we should as a group sue Callie. I’m in. I have no issues going after FCPS and Dr. Reid either. The self righteousness of Callie is amazing.

Callie sucks for wasting so much of the school system's time AND for not giving the info back AND for sending it all to a journalist AND for publishing docs on her website where the identity of kids can be deduced.

Amen! I’m also loving the fact that when you google Callie’s name this is the 3rd thing on page 1. Let’s keep it at the topic so everyone knows her role in this situation. Of all the wonderful advocates I’ve worked with as a sped teacher, I hope they choose them over Callie.

I've been a very vocal critic of her treatment of private data without consent throughout this thread--but as someone who comes to the situation without any prior knowledge of her or her work, just reading her blog and articles, and evolving my thinking through this thread-I think it's just as likely that this thread pointing out her role increases awareness of her work in ways that benefit her.

I come at it from the perspective of a parent and citizen who has a generally positive experience of public schools and while I can be frustrated by their flaws, I trust their intentions are good. But I think there are plenty of people whose experiences and beliefs make them think differently--including some on this thread-and they might focus less on the fact that she went through and shared private data without others consent and more that she is a needed whistleblower. In my view, everyone should just read her own blog/articles etc. and make their own judgments. That's the point of this thread in my view--figuring out what happened, and what we think about her role in it based on how she describes it and what if anything can be done about it. If this ends up benefitting her, that's okay--people have the freedom to form their own opinions and weigh the evidence in the ways they think are right.
Okay--I said I was signing off on this thread earlier, but now I really am done.

Ok that’s just wrong. Not funny, not laughable. It is literally wrong. This woman realized she had our children’s personal information and instead of raising her hand or deleting it she decided to read through all of it and assess how it could benefit our cause. She gave zero f***s how it would affect anyone other than her and her child.
No where and in no way am I backing FCPS, but those of you all on Callie’s side need to seriously take a look at yourself.

One woman has the courage to stand up to the 3 Billion dollar machine of FCPS, and the media.
Fact: She requested data
Fact: FCPS gives data
Fact: She uses data
Fact: People say "oh my she is bad".
I can't wrap my mind around that.

Fact: She demanded excessive amounts of data
Fact: FCPS messed up and gave her obviously wrong data
Fact: she knew she shouldn’t have it, but instead of deleting it, returning it, or keeping it to herself, she shared it, unredacted, in full, with media.
Fact: she is conniving and selfish and needs to be prevented from doing this again

Correct. It was bad to “use data” from other families without their consent.
