Non-perishable snacks for running

Anonymous
I'm looking for some non-perishable snack bars to start off my runs.

What are your favorites?

Are you running like 20+ miles? An iron man?

Context?

FWIW, running stores sell pocket size "goo" that you can slurp, but you know that already, right?

Just a snack for daily 7 mile runs. Sometimes I don't have time to eat before I go out and I don't want a heavy meal in any case.

Much appreciated! - OP

Why do you need a snack before running?

If you truly do, some peanut butter works.

You could eat a date, a couple of Fig Newtons, half a banana, a Lara bar.

If you're running 7 miles, a couple bananas should do the trick.

A couple?!?!?!

OP, are you starting your run from work or something? I like to have some carbs about 30 minutes-hour before I run, so I usually have a piece of fruit. If I'm doing a longer (10+ miles) or more intense run (like a race) I'll have toast with peanut butter about 1-1.5 hours before my run, and then a small fruit about 20 minutes before my run.

Longer than that, I will bring along some honey stinger chews, gu, or my favorite, pure maple syrup. https://untapped.cc/

5-7 miles is my max, and I almost never eat something prior. Coffee before though, always.

If it's on the longer side of that, maybe a single spoon of peanut butter stuffed in my mouth. But I honestly don't know how people run with food in their stomach. Food = cramps.

However, I get re-fueling if you're running really long distances.

Everyone is different I guess, but why would you need a snack for seven miles?

I don't think OP ever specified seven miles.

Oh, nevermind. Sorry.

OP, I really like RX bars for a quick pre-workout snack. I also make homemade almond butter-oat-chocolate chip balls and have a few before my early morning workouts. I need something in my stomach to tolerate water. Lara bars might be good, too.

Why is everyone snacking pre- workout? Do you enjoy banking a ton of unnecessary calories and fat? Is your daily food consumption not loaded down enough with sugar, salt, fat, and calories that you feel compelled to chew down Lara bars, peanut butter, bananas?

What am I missing?
