You still ovulate when on the pill; your lining just gets too thin for an egg to implant. Plenty of people get pregnant while on the pill or if they miss one.

No, the pill stops ovulation. That is what makes it effective. Women get pregnant when they skip pills or don't take them at the same time of day.

OP, it actually took me about 2 months to get my period back when I went off the pill. I was not intending to become pregnant at the time (was getting off the pill for other reasons) and I was freaking out that I was pregnant. It just took my body a few months to readjust to making its own hormones.

When I went off the NuvaRing, it was about 40 days until I got my period.

It took about 3 months before I had a period again, after taking the pill for around 8 years straight.

I was on the pill for about 4 years, off for one, then back on for 9 years. My period came back after five weeks. I think it’s much heavier than it ever was before too. My cycles have all been about 4.5 to 5 weeks. Still no luck getting pregnant, though I did switch from the cheap strips to the ClearBlue this cycle and ovulated a few days later than I had expected so maybe this will be the month!

This is OP. I recently went off the pill and have been using the cheap sticks pretty much twice a day to figure out when I ovulate - nothing yet, but I know it could take some time. I'm curious why you prefer the ClearBlue more than the cheap sticks? I didn't want to spend the money on CB because I truly have NO idea when I will ovulate.

I think it depends on the type of pill you use whether or not you ovulate. Minipill works mostly by changing the lining, most women do still ovulate something like half of the time while on minipill. Other pills stop it entirely.

I went off the pill a few months ago in preparation. I ovulated pretty much right at 2 weeks - could tell by physical symptoms - and period right on time. This was after 10+ years on the pill too! I was shocked my body bounced back just like that.

I switched to ClearBlue to get more accurate readings. I could never really tell the lines on the cheap ones, it felt like reading tea leaves. I did both this cycle (I’m in month 5 post pill) to see what a positive looks like and while I can better see the cheap strips are positive, I still couldn’t100% tell. I’m also 37 and didn’t want to waste cycle after cycle, so I figured it was worth the $30 something to see how it works. I can report back in two weeks.

I never did... I used clomid to trigger ovulation after waiting 6 months. Got pregnant immediately once I took clomid.

How did you know you weren't ovulating? Were you temping / using OPKs, or just never got a period?

Never got a period. Actually, got one after 3 months and then 3.5 more months went by and still hadn’t had one. Gyn did scan and didn’t see any mature follicles / indications that I was going to ovulate. I wasn’t trying or tracking because it was too hard to know when to try / what to track.

(Strangely, for my 2nd I had very regular cycles, tests indicated I was ovulating, but I wasn’t getting pregnant. Clomid didn’t work for my second. Eventually I conceived after 14 months!!)

I got pregnant on the pill. My OB said if you miss more than one (or two, I can't remember) it's possible to ovulate.
