I'm a Peloton fanatic, but now that I'm over 40, I feel like I need to do more than the 10 minute toning classes to rebuild muscle mass that I've lost as I've aged. CorePower and solidcore are both close to my office. Which one would be better for building muscle? How many times a week do you think I would need to go in addition to riding my Peloton to see results? |
SolidCore. Go 2-3x per week in addition to your Peleton workouts and you will see a big difference. |
Neither. Get a gym membership and lift weights. |
Yup. |
have you ever BEEN to solidcore? OP, I'm also a 41 year old Peloton fanatic who does Solidcore. It's a ridiculously effective workout. I only go once a week but if you go 2-3 times a week you'll see noticeable differences. |
I'm a 42 year old Peloton + solidcore person (there are several of us). Here's the deal: solidcore is very, very effective for building muscle, particularly if you go 2-3 times/week. It's also expensive and harder work than most people want to put in. If you can get proper instruction and would prefer something cheaper and less painful, lifting weights is also really effective. It all comes down to your preferences. I *love* my solidcore, so that's a huge bonus of the workout. I don't think CorePower belongs in the same realm for muscle building as these two. |
I agree with all of this. I’ve spent a lot of time weightlifting in gyms and it’s possible to get results that way, but for me, SolidCore gets me there faster because it’s so intense and focused. There’s no question about what I’m doing and no option for slacking. It’s the most efficient 50 minutes of exercise I’ve ever done. I combine it with Peleton for cardio and endurance and the combo has put me in excellent shape. |
OP here. Just finished my first solidcore class. That was harder than any weight training I’ve ever done, even with the trainer who used to kick my ass. Whew. |
Way to go, OP! It doesn’t get easier but you get SO much stronger (and IME it gets much less awkward pretty quickly—I felt like I was flailing the entire first class, and by 3-5 I had the basics down). ![]() |
Hardest does not necessarily mean most effective. Suffering is not a precondition for results. |
Nobody said it was a precondition, but neither is weight training the only effective way to build muscle. The posters pushing a different option that OP didn’t ask about are classic DCUM know-it-alls. |
I'm one of the solidcore PPs, and lifted weights for many years as part of various sports. They're two different ways to get strong. I explicitly mentioned that solidcore was far more painful, but IME it also affords a mental discipline that weight lifting doesn't. Weight lifting is great if it works for you, and it's not the only thing out there. Heck, people ask me if I do CrossFit, so clearly solidcore has been effective in building muscle for me! |
