You are saying quarantine not isolated - so that means they were quarantined because another kids came to school with COVID?

So that means the "massless" kids did nothing wrong. They came to school. Now they are being asked to stay home. It's their choice. They know the risk. They have not spread COVID. It's the other child that came to school sick that may have spread it.

Were they vaccinated? I'm assuming you don't know since schools should not be sharing that information.

The reality is that they are probably being asked to stay home because they are not vaccinated. It has nothing to do with the mask.

If they are vaccinated, your school should be reported for only quarantining vaccinated maskless students. That's not how the guidelines work.

PP here. Nobody else from their classrooms has been sent home. As a teacher, having gone up to help them out with their work, it makes me nervous. I take care of my older parents at home who are vaxxed and boosted, but they are still vulnerable. I wonder why more kids from their classes were not sent home as well if they sat near them, and were maskless.

Unfortunately, you are missing lots of info. Who test positive for covid? Anyone? Usually, the school announced when a case has been found in the school. Has anything been announced.

Maybe they stayed home because teachers were being mean to them for being unmasked. That is happening at our school.

We got a letter saying a kid in a class tested positive for covid. No name was mentioned, but one of the siblings is in that class. Our school does not keep a list of un-masked kids. I assume kids who sit close to positive student will be contacted, however, kids do walk around the classroom; they are also in the hallway, do PE, are seated with othet kids during specials classes. It will be very hard to contact trace.

The comment about teachers being mean to un-masked students is out of place.

Its also out of place to get on a board and claim a un-masked child is spreading covid in your school. Its probably not true and definitely not scientific.

Who knows? Nobody can prove it, but if my kid had to stay home for a week, because my child was sitting next to an unmasked student that tested positive, I would be livid! Sure, it was that family’s choice to send the kid without a mask, but then, it will not be my choice to use my sick/vacation days off to stay home with my own child. Some parents get paid by the hour, what choice do they get? Food or no food on the table?

If your kid is vaccinated they do not need to stay home for a close contact, regardless of who was masked/unmasked.

+ 1000. If it’s quaretines you are afraid of then vaccinate your kid. Vaccinated children are not quarantined.

A vaccinated child could eat off the same plate as a covid positive person and still not be quarantined.

Protect yourself by vaccinating so you don’t have to be angry at others.

If only there were a way to prevent this situation.
If only there were something like, say, a vaccine!

Get your kid (and yourself vaxxed), then you won't need to be in this situation.

I agree. The amount of vitriol directed at parents who have decided that masking is not necessary or appropriate for their child is appalling. I am saddened to see such hateful comments.

There is a lot of ugliness coming from unmasked families in this tread.

Which statements do you find particularly ugly? I feel like more of the vitriol has been coming from the pro-maskers toward those that support the diocese’s decision. I admittedly haven’t read the entire thread though.

Diocese of Richmond is mask Optional. Because they’re sane and not neurotic weirdos

For the love of God. If you want your kid masked, then go to Public school. Stop
trying to have your cake and eat it too. At Catholic schools, we want it optional. It’s the parents choice. They are children. Shame on any parent putting a mask on their innocent child. You’re a bad mom. There, I said it

I call troll.

First, you seem to barely understand what’s happened in VA. Your school or diocese isn’t being bold and sticking up for your choice. They are merely following the governor.

Second, it’s v clear from this thread and what’s actually happening at Catholic schools that there’s no definitive “we want it optional.”

Third, as others have said, I love the support from Catholic women for choice as a core belief of the church! Your body your choice! Join me in making a donation to Planned Parenthood this weekend?

"Your school or diocese"

"I love the support from Catholic women"

So, you are not speaking as a Catholic school parent = TROLL. Go back to your troll bridge. You do you, while we Catholic school parents do us.

Hmm. I’m the PP you are writing too. Perhaps I should have written “FELLOW Catholic Women” as I’m a lifelong Catholic, have kids in Catholic schools in nova, and am strongly pro-choice. Please to see other Catholic women join me.

Same! There are so many of us.

Mary weeps for you (even though you have a mask on).

Too funny - requiring vaccines to be able to attend school has been around for decades. The Code of Virginia requires children entering daycare, public and private schools to give proof of vaccination before enrolling in school. https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/content/uploads/sites/11/2021/03/VDH-Vaccine-Schedule.pdf

Anybody under 50 had to get required vaccines in all 50 states to go to schools. Some states went back a century or more before that. Yet it's some CRAZY new idea now.

What bull.

A vax for a virus that no is longer circulating, protects you from quarantine for a different virus. Makes sense.

If only there were a way to prevent this situation.
If only there were something like, say, a vaccine!

Get your kid (and yourself vaxxed), then you won't need to be in this situation.

Right. Because the vaccines prevent you from getting COVID and spreading COVID.

Oh, wait …

At this point people only care about avoiding quarentines. You need the vax to be granted permission to be In school when you are healthy! It’s out of control!

ROFLMAO - Imagine how society has suddenly imploded by demanding that kids get vaccines to go to school! Who ever thought up that idea?

Oh wait......

Grow up.

Wouldn't make sense if we didn't have THOUSANDS of people DYING every day RIGHT NOW from it. Don't spend your life in alternative realities, it's a waste of time.

The health department says the data show that unvaccinated people are 4.6 times more likely to develop COVID-19 than fully vaccinated individuals and are 4.2 times more likely to die from COVID-19.

Currently, Fairfax County shows 86.5% of residents 5yo+ have had 1 shot, for kids 52.4% (5-11yo), 90.7% (12-15yo ), 96.1% (16-17 yo)
