First, you seem to barely understand what’s happened in VA. Your school or diocese isn’t being bold and sticking up for your choice. They are merely following the governor.

Second, it’s v clear from this thread and what’s actually happening at Catholic schools that there’s no definitive “we want it optional.”

Third, as others have said, I love the support from Catholic women for choice as a core belief of the church! Your body your choice! Join me in making a donation to Planned Parenthood this weekend?

I’m a parent at this school. There are 3 that I’m aware of from that class that are positive. All were in school to start the week. The 5yo mentioned remains hospitalized and we are all united in prayer for their healing.

My understanding is that about 10 kids in the class (approximately half) were unmasked on Monday. I have no idea who gave what to who. I’ve heard from others that the hospitalized child was not wearing a mask, but my kid is in another grade so I can’t confirm that as a fact.

The propaganda I see on this thread are the claims that children don’t get sick (absolutely untrue) and that masks do nothing (untrue if you care to invest a few minutes to get your children good quality, well fitting masks).

I take care of my older parents at home who are vaxxed and boosted, but they are still vulnerable. I wonder why more kids from their classes were not sent home as well if they sat near them, and were maskless.

This is the problem with the new guidelines - many do not understand them - masks or not. Here is what should be happening if they are following the cdc and local health department:
- COVID positive kid goes home for 5 days minimum. Wears mask through day 10 if returning before day 10.
- unvaccinated close contact goes home for 5 days minimum - close contact is within 3 ft if both were masked, or 6 ft if either or both were unmasked - the only alternative to this is if school has implemented test to stay. Wears mask through day 10 if back at school during this time.
- vaccinated close contact stays at school but wears a mask for 10 days - close contact is within 3 ft if both were masked, or 6 ft if either or both were unmasked

We got a letter saying a kid in a class tested positive for covid. No name was mentioned, but one of the siblings is in that class. Our school does not keep a list of un-masked kids. I assume kids who sit close to positive student will be contacted, however, kids do walk around the classroom; they are also in the hallway, do PE, are seated with othet kids during specials classes. It will be very hard to contact trace.

Who knows? Nobody can prove it, but if my kid had to stay home for a week, because my child was sitting next to an unmasked student that tested positive, I would be livid! Sure, it was that family’s choice to send the kid without a mask, but then, it will not be my choice to use my sick/vacation days off to stay home with my own child. Some parents get paid by the hour, what choice do they get? Food or no food on the table?
