No, but the random poster asking Jeff to shut it down was exactly the entitled behavior that deserves its own name. If it isn’t Karen, what should it be? And who will advise the internet of the change? |
Um, I'm not white. I'm not black either. I am, however, someone who has a particular interest in the field of misogyny, due to the nature of my work. |
DCUM not agreeing means absolutely nothing. DCUM can bend over backwards trying to fight the meaning of Karen. Every other form of media understands what Karen means. It’s already been said, DCUM is full of Karens and this thread proves it. |

Oh yeah? Urban Dictionary disagrees with your definition. Here's Urban Dictionary's top definition:
But it looks like even Urban Dictionary can't agree with itself. Here's their second definition.
And here's Urban Dictionary's third (and last) definition.
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=A%20Karen Note the common denominators to all three definitions. (1) Always a woman, usually a mom. (2) Always bossy, know-it-all, "can I speak to your manager." Note what's missing from all three definitions. (3) No racism required or even mentioned. (4) No victimhood or crying required or even mentioned. So "every other form of media understands what Karen means" something different from what you keep trying to dictate. Which would make you.... |

You tell me, bc I damn sure didn’t give a definition of Karen. You go ahead and pat yourself on the back for what? Presenting definitions and examples that proves this site is full of Karens. Not to mention, also proves why DCUM is bending over backwards to get it removed. |
Umm...how many times has it been said that Karen is the woman who wants to speak to the manager. DCUM is the place claiming every assertive woman is labeled a Karen and that it’s a way to silence all women. Looks like it’s a way to silence the angry and entitled woman who is prone to meltdowns after not getting her way. |
Sure you didn’t offer any opinions previous to your post at the top. Anyways. A Karen is a woman who has, shall we say, strong opinions. Strong opinions among women are to be condemned, especially if she’s screaming at the barista, but none of the definitions actually requires screaming at people. Ergo, people who fling around pejorative Karens for any strong woman expressing an opinion are misogynists. |
Umm... and whooosh. Now no woman with a legitimate grievance can ask to speak to the manager. Any women who does is a Karen. Just look at OP’s legitimate grievance about not being able to get curbside service, and how many people trashed her as a Karen even though she only thought about talking to the manager. And don’t pretend we haven’t spent the last 5-10 pages watching some of you trying to insert victim hood and racism into the mix. |
You replied to my comment. So nope, I didn’t provide a definition. Reread the definitions you posted, it’s very clear Karen isn’t aimed at strong women. It’s aimed at a certain women who is entitled, overly aggressive, disrespectful and wants to speak with a manager when not given her way. |
Okay lady. If that makes you feel better. You're definitely not a Karen. We submit!
|
Just going off the definitions you posted. What’s consider legitimate? Anything you desire to complain about? Why do you need to speak to a manager? Op didn’t complain, so she wouldn’t be a Karen. Her coming here to complain is odd and unnecessary. |
You sound racist. |
What you're missing is this spreads to every woman who is behaving in a way someone doesn't like. You don't understand how that works? It's used to control women. You don't think the soccer team needs matching team water bottles? Stop being a Karen. You asked for decaf, we gave you caf, and now you want to exchange it? What a Karen. You don't think I should be letting my cat wander around eating birds in your yard? You're a total Karen. |
