Over 12,000 sex assault victims reported just now on FOX. The Boy Scouts Association is threatening to file for bankruptcy, because they can’t afford the payouts.
The names of the perpetrators must be made public, and be held accountable. |
This really isn't new information. |
No wonder they needed to open their membership (coffers) to girls. |
They opened it to the girls because there were alot of pressure from moms and those with girls who thought the girl scouts are boring and they wanted their girls to do the boy stuff in the boy scouts.
The are also low on funds because the big sponsor were the Mormons and they backed out and wanted to start their own scouts branch on their religious terms. |
I trust our local Council, the National Capital Area Council. They’ve had safeguards and training in place for many years, and we’ve known the leaders for many years through school and scouting. |
Nope. And the grab for girls was disgusting. |
Yes, I trust our troop. DS has been in it for a few years. He loves it. It's taught him so much, and gets him outside. There is a policy that an adult can never be alone with a child.
what happened to those boys is horrible. Unfortunately, sh1t like this doesn't and didn't happen just in the Boy Scouts. It happened/happens in the church (not just Catholic church, either. It happened in the evangelical churches too), in schools, etc... Should we not send our kids to schools or churches because this kind of horrible thing has happened in those places, too? I'm glad the Boy Scouts are being more transparent about this. |
Uh no. Isn’t Maryland in the National Capital Area? |

No, not all of Maryland. |
So NONE of the 74 leaders named in Maryland were in the NCA? |
These records go back to the 1960s. As we now know, any institution that has close contact with kids - the church, summer camps, Scouts, day cares, schools, and child sports - are magnets for pedophiles. Institutions have learned a lot and to some extent have tried to make amends. For example, when I was in Scouts in the 1990s we had a ton of training regarding appropriate conduct between boys and adults, strict rules about chaperoning (i.e., no adult ever alone with a child), and mandatory background checks for all adult leaders and any parent chaperoning and overnight trip. In my troop, adults were not allowed to ever share a tent with a Boy - even if it was your own son. It was expected that the boys share tents and the adults have their own separate tents. The system worked very well. I am anticipating the birth of my son. I will not hesitate to enroll him in co-ed Scouting. |
The files go back to the 60s, but many lists have been “scrubbed”. Lots of cover up went on here. There are some in DC and NoVa too. |
The story from patch had a clickbait headline. The 70+ accused from Maryland were in scouts between 1947 and 2005. NOBODY on the list has been involved with scouting in the last 14+ years.
Scouts ditched the secret blacklist in 2005 and moved to a very open two-deep supervision model. I'm sure it's not perfect but, yes, you can absolutely trust the Boy Scouts of America. |
According to The Patch, the records go back to the 1947 and end in 2005. |
