| I would really like to lose 10 lbs before the summer starts. I’m not fat, but my stomach hangs and is not “bikini ready”. I also have a DD (almost DDD) chest which makes summer bikinis and clothes hard to pull off. I would look better if I lost 10 lbs, but I don’t even know where to begin. I currently weigh 147 and am 5’6. Where do I go from here? |
| No you won't look better after losing 10 lbs. You might feel better and you may lose a inch in the waist, but you definitely won't look better. I lost 20 lbs and visually I only look a bit slimmer/toned but by far it's not a transformation. |

You can lose 10lbs, but you will have to be firm in your choices/measurements.
For what its worth, I'll always have hanging skin unless I have surgery. Three kids will do that to a body. I just pick better swimsuits that feel comfortable. |
I’d like to be more thin. What do you suggest PP? |
Good advice |
What do you mean?! A ten pound loss makes most people look better. Op is is 147 at 5'6, ten lbs lost would put her at 137. She probably looks good now and losing 10 pounds will make her look even better. |
| If your stomach hangs it will still hang after losing 10 lbs, just maybe a little less. You need to focus on tightening up your core more than losing weight. Belly fat is notoriously hard to lose (its stubborn, especially in women as it's padding your reproductive system) and you can't spot reduce so you could lose 10 lbs from your butt and boobs for all you know. So don't focus on losing weight as much as dialing in your nutrition to reduce bloat and strengthening your core. |
| 10 pounds at 5’6” is definitely going to look better. |
| I am with you. I figure it’s 6 weeks to go until summer. I started Whole30 3 days ago. 27 more days to go. |
Yes, but 137 and 5’6” is not bikini material. |
| Following because I’m in the same boat. 5’6”, 130 but small frame so loosing 10lbs would look good on me too. |

Hi OP...First, you have to remember this...if you want to lose weight you have to be in a caloric deficit. Look at your diet first! Cut out all the bad crap. You know what it is....booze, sugar, processed foods, white carbs, etc and eat healthy. If you do this, you will lose 10 pounds by summer. You can NOT out train a bad diet. Believe me I've tried. : ) Strength training is your best bet for long term weight loss as increasing muscle burns more calories just throughout the day doing every day things. Obviously, cardio burns calories. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) burns the most calories. So I have no idea what kind of shape you are in. Because you said you don't know where to begin, I assume you are a real beginner to weight training so please take it easy at first. Just do body weight exercises. You can find tons of videos if you google cardio strength training. I don't know if you like to run, bike, row, etc. or what you have available to you, so it's hard for me to give you too much specifics, but for strength training....look for body weight workouts that include burpees, push ups, squats, lunges, mountain climbers, skaters, for example. As you get stronger, you can add weight by holding a dumbbell when you do squats, lunges, curls, shoulder presses, etc. As to HIIT, you can't beat sprinting and walking. But not everyone likes this. But if you can handle this....run as hard as you can for 100 steps and then walk 100 steps (until you recover. If you are still huffing and puffing, walk a little longer), do these intervals for as long as you can. Maybe 10-12 intervals. It should take about 20 minutes. Jump rope is a great cardio exercise. So a sample routine would be something like
Monday: Strength Train maybe 30 minute workout. Core work (front plank, side plank x 3) Stretch! Tuesday: HIIT 20 minutes. Jump rope 10 minutes. (core work) Stretch Wed: Walk/Bike Stretch Thurs: Repeat Monday Friday: Repeat Tuesday Sat: Walk/Bike Sun: Walk/Bike Try this and see how you feel. The key is to start slow. Don't hurt yourself. Increase intensity/volume a little each week. Experiment with exercises so you find a routine that you like and "enjoy". Some people love the rowing machine, some a bike. Good luck. |
I posted the above...OP - if you really are a beginner and don't exercise at all. I think even the above routine might be too hard the first week. Maybe just start off with walking and a slow job every now and then so your muscles get used to it. Maybe just do a few push ups and squats just to see how you feel the next day. My fear is that you do too much, get sore as hell the next day and can't move. That isn't good either. Build up slowly. |
Really? I’m 5’6” and the couple of times I dipped down to 125 from my usual 130-135 people were asking about my health. I would think 120 would be scrawny/unattractive. |
WRONG. |
