Hi OP...First, you have to remember this...if you want to lose weight you have to be in a caloric deficit. Look at your diet first! Cut out all the bad crap. You know what it is....booze, sugar, processed foods, white carbs, etc and eat healthy. If you do this, you will lose 10 pounds by summer. You can NOT out train a bad diet. Believe me I've tried. : ) Strength training is your best bet for long term weight loss as increasing muscle burns more calories just throughout the day doing every day things. Obviously, cardio burns calories. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) burns the most calories. So I have no idea what kind of shape you are in. Because you said you don't know where to begin, I assume you are a real beginner to weight training so please take it easy at first. Just do body weight exercises. You can find tons of videos if you google cardio strength training. I don't know if you like to run, bike, row, etc. or what you have available to you, so it's hard for me to give you too much specifics, but for strength training....look for body weight workouts that include burpees, push ups, squats, lunges, mountain climbers, skaters, for example. As you get stronger, you can add weight by holding a dumbbell when you do squats, lunges, curls, shoulder presses, etc. As to HIIT, you can't beat sprinting and walking. But not everyone likes this. But if you can handle this....run as hard as you can for 100 steps and then walk 100 steps (until you recover. If you are still huffing and puffing, walk a little longer), do these intervals for as long as you can. Maybe 10-12 intervals. It should take about 20 minutes. Jump rope is a great cardio exercise. So a sample routine would be something like Monday: Strength Train maybe 30 minute workout. Core work (front plank, side plank x 3) Stretch! Tuesday: HIIT 20 minutes. Jump rope 10 minutes. (core work) Stretch Wed: Walk/Bike Stretch Thurs: Repeat Monday Friday: Repeat Tuesday Sat: Walk/Bike Sun: Walk/Bike Try this and see how you feel. The key is to start slow. Don't hurt yourself. Increase intensity/volume a little each week. Experiment with exercises so you find a routine that you like and "enjoy". Some people love the rowing machine, some a bike. Good luck.
