Losing the last 10 and extra hungry

Anonymous
30 lbs down through lowering carb, veggies, calorie restriction. I’m less than 10 lbs to goal. I wasnt “hungry” during weight loss -normal hungry, but not ravenous.

All of a sudden I am starving; I’m hungry all of the time. I’m so close to being at a normal BMI and my body seems to want to sabotage it.

No easy answers here but you want to try water green tea or other types of teas to tame that urge. Another option works for me is a 20 hours fast and then eat a large meal. After that mean another fast 10 hours. Urge to consume junk food goes higher as you eat more salty food.

When I’m hungry I listen to my body, but feed it real food.
Also, maybe you should look into carb cycling. It helps to keep up your metabolism.

This is actually a thing. Your body is trying to get you back to your old weight. Caffeine can help curb the cravings.

I KNOW. Going through this right now. Stay strong, OP!

Sometimes I chew gum to stave off cravings.

This is why it's so hard to keep weight off. Your body is telling you that it's starving. This is why dieting often doesn't work in the long-term.

Maybe have one really good indulgent meal and then try to get back on track?

no advice, but congratulations! that is a huge accomplishment. my goal in the new year was to lose 15 pounds, I am down about ten now. my main change in my diet was not to starve myself throughout the day. I have filling snacks (an apple, for example) at around 10 AM and 3 PM.

Once I didn't listen to my body when I was hungry at night. And the next morning I literary fainted and shook on the floor of my living room. I thought, it is late, not time to eat so late t night. Guess my blood pressure and sugar disagreed. I am healthy and not overweight, and no diagnosis but for a long time my blood pressure was normal for me, 80/40 and it would drop even lower. Now I listen and eat.

How did you lose the 10 pounds and what do you weigh now?

I'm the one who is always telling people to embrace hunger. It sounds like you've done that- well done! But with what you describe I would suggest having one large, heavy meal. For me, a prime rib does the trick. I get a prime rib with asparagus or spinach on the side, and eat the whole thing- no leftovers. Wash it down with a red wine. It will make the ravenous feeling go away and reset everything. Don't worry about the calories. Just have 300 calorie meals for breakfast and lunch, and then go full HAM at dinner.

I’m right there with you, OP. I was getting really close to my goal weight of 135, and I suddenly started really struggling with my eating, and I gained a few pounds back. This week I’m trying to reset and get back on track. My goal is to separate the emotions and feelings from my weight loss journey, and instead think of ways to “troubleshoot” fixes for the issues that are causing me to slip up.

I was thinking this weekend that I allow my emotions and feelings about my weight and body to play such a big role in my weight loss journey, so when I mess up a bit, I end up spending way too much time beating myself up. Instead of internally berating myself, my goal for this week is to “troubleshoot” solutions for the issues that are causing me to slip up in the first place. I think the word “troubleshoot” is so free from emotions and judgment, and going forward that’s the way I’d like my ongoing weight loss/maintenance journey to be.

So here is my troubleshooting plan for the week: I tend to get really hungry and crave sweet stuff throughout the day at work. I normally bring Greek yogurt/overnight oats with chopped apples, cinnamon and Splenda for breakfast, and I really love it. Instead of eating that for breakfast, my plan this week is to eat 2 hard boiled eggs for breakfast, my standard lunch, and then eat the Greek yogurt thing for a snack if I need it. I follow the 21 day fix all my meals for the week will (hopefully) fall within my allotted food for the day. Fingers crossed it works!

In the same boat. Drinking tons of water really helps. That and the right snacks, nuts, slice of cheese, hard boiled egg. hard boiled eggs work wonders for me. Like 70 calories and so filling. Good luck!

Exactly- put the hunger hormones back in place and reset your body if it is a calorie conserving mode.- enjoy a solid meal with more calories than used to, then get back on your reduced plan. I just went away for the weekend and had way more calories than usual. My scale wasn't moving for the last couple of weeks before going away and I was diligently cutting back/tracking low calories. Low and behold, I came home and weighed myself and the scale finally went down.
