Anyone have an iq less than 100?

Technically half the population has an iq under 100, but whenever you hear anyone mention their iq it's always considerably well above 100. 90-100 is still considered the average range. There must be some posters on DCUM who meet this profile. If so, what is your job and what was school like for you?

Some of my students have IQs in the 70s and low 80s yet they don’t qualify for IEPs even though they struggle.

My son tested at an IQ in the 90s. He also has ADHD. He’s getting mostly As and is one year ahead in math. I think the ADHD influenced his score, but in any event, intelligence is malleable. The brain is like a muscle. Use it more and it gets stronger. Will the kick up your IQ by 30 points? No. But access to resources and lots of practice matter more than you might think.

Who are all these people who know their IQs? I have never had a reason or desire to be tested.

Me thinks you’ve not an idea of the difference between mean and median. . . Sub 90 for you?

This. My DS has consistently tests above average but he has dyslexia. He’s nowhere close to making As. IQ is only one component of a person’s makeup. Someone with a low average IQ can absolutely do well academically. Sometimes people with higher IQs gets lazy. School comes easier for them and they don’t learn what it’s like to try. Learning to work consistently and through frustration is invaluable as an adult.

They struggle because the teacher cannot teach

In my 20's, my therapist had a whole slew of testing done on me and one of them was an IQ test. The psychological testing showed that I have a very mild version of bi-polar disorder and my IQ came out to 122.

I was an AWFUL student in high school, graduating with a C average and I attained that C doing absolutely nothing. No studying, no homework (I graduated from Churchill). However, I excelled in art and that is where I am gifted. I am almost 100% visual and I have the ability to teach myself any medium just from watching someone do it once.

In the D.C. area, even with my IQ being 122, I feel as if I am not that smart. I'd be curious to see what the average IQ of the D.C. metro area is compared to other places.

How do these kids come across outside of their academic performance? To be blunt, in average interaction do they come across as "dumb" or is it something that only stands out when they are trying to learn something?

Here is an idea of IQ and jobs. Plenty of great jobs with IQ <100.

My IQ when tested to get into the Air Force was 97. After four years, I left and started a pretty successful company.

I use to be a social worker and worked for various adult protective services. A large segment of the impoverished communities are in the 75 to 90 range if I had to guess. They function fine in their own puzzle piece but it explains why "getting out" is really not a reality for them. Social services does a much better job helping these individuals when we teach them how to enhance small parts of their daily life and not try and sell them the american middle class dream that really doesnt exists anymore. Getting 1/6 of my clients enrolled in a community college isn't a success. Getting 5/6 to learn how the apply the bus schedule to their daily life/maximize all routes and put in place a distress plan if they miss = a success.
