I love VYS. However, I can't stand some of the whiny parents that want to make excuses for everything. |
And the former staff members/board members (not Eddie Lima himself, to my knowledge) who are still bitter about being pushed out, even though there were legitimate reasons in each case. |
What's the story behind that? |
It's all explained in first 50 pages. |
Multiple. Old board grew stale, new board came in, new board couldn't keep technical staff because of tangled business deal, some of new board left after a year for various reasons (some legitimately personal, some burned out on the politics), and so on. So you have some bitter people from the old board, some bitter people from the new board (but hopefully not the new new board), and a couple of bitter people from the old technical staff. The good news is that they now have a good board and a good technical staff. But people will continue fighting the battles of 2014-15 for years on this board. |
Good Technical Staff? You're joking, right? Give me a break! If our families are satisfied and feel like our kids are receiving quality training, why do so many continue to leave the club? If you need this verified by someone in the know, I would invite you to ask Hank. He is the only experience coach left in our club. When his team graduates, unfortunately he will likely bail too!
Regarding Lima, I venture to say he has forgotten the disfunction of Vienna. The last time I saw him, he was looking pretty happy as his team won the state cup. Sounds to me like the author of the post claiming that rediculousness may be the bitter one. Hmmmm? |
Hey, Coach, how are you? How's your new club treating you? Sorry the club hasn't collapsed in your absence. It's going to be tough to keep top players in this climate, with so many clubs going DA or ECNL, not to mention CCL or EDP or whatever, but it's still going to be a good solid club that serves the community well and has the occasional good team. But say hi to Eddie for me. He's a terrific coach, and a lot of us are still sorry it didn't work out to keep him here. Great rapport with kids. |

Posted JUST after someone posted about Arlington's wonderful DA tryout in the other thread. Hmmmm ... So you apparently like your own posts, coach? Or are two of you involved? |
I am at a loss.?? I am not exactly sure what post you are referring to. I simply agree with the comment the previous person shared. My apologies if that offended you. However, my personal opinion is that, as a club, we are not heading in a positive direction. The quality of overall management and trainers has continued to decline over the last couple years significantly. The current Directors are nice guys but it has become abundantly clear that they do not have the knowledge or experience to run a club like VYS. Quite frankly, myself and other families that we know have waited this out in hopes that it would turn around. It has only proven to get worse as time has gone on. More money for less. I am not a huge Lima supporter but anyone that has been around this club long enough knows that he had a pretty good handle on what our kids and club wanted. Was it perfect? NO. But our kids enjoyed it and we felt like they were receiving training from some pretty talented coaches/trainers. Change is always good and with the right skills and knowledge it could still be great. There just needs to be involvement/management from individuals more knowledgeable in the game and willing to admit when the route that we are taking isn’t working. |
This is not a response to anyone in particular, but just a general comment. One doesn't hear complaints about the TDs or about the quality of the VYS coaches these days; it's an accomplished group, as you can see from the Super Y coaching roster. What is a tricky problem is the high coach-to-player ratio in many age groups. DS was on a field with a 1:24 coach-to-player ratio in the fall and half the players were a year older. He got tired of his team losing the in-practice competitions week after week to the older kids. We still like the coach a lot. It may just be the reality with limited field space. I would prefer more individualized attention b/c DS needs work! |
what you describe is a temporary situation I think and isn't indicative of the experience of practically every other VYS travel player. I'd bet things are differet this spring. good luck to your son |
Field space was a definite issue this fall. It's better in the spring because the longer days make more fields available. |
Yes but then lacrosse is competing with us for fields..... |
Who are the Super Y coaches? I didn't see them on the website. |
