One of our local politicians, Chris Van Hollen, broke rank with the party and has been condemning the starvation in Gaza. AIPAC is running a massive ad blitz targeting the senator. “AIPAC has been running ads against me in Maryland for about a month. And you know what I say? Too bad... You're not going to persuade me to stop voting in a way that supports human rights.” During his interview with Mehdi Hasan on Zeteo, Senator Chris Van Hollen also said: "There's a huge inconsistency when people say that they want to fight for human rights and somehow leave out Palestinians." "My view, at the end of the day, is it's really not worth being a member of the House or the Senate if you can't look yourself at the mirror in the end of the day." |
Do you think families that have lost loved ones to this conflict GAF if their side deserved it? No. They hate the other side regardless. |
Van Hollen is a class act. I am so proud that he represents my district. |
Another CVH fan. Not sure what Maryland did right to deserve him. The rest of our politicians are so inauthentic. |
Pretty certain that as a senator he represents the entire state of Maryland. |
It would not be unreasonable for Israelis to have less than warm feelings toward the perpetrators of the October 7 massacre, namely, Hamas and its associates of that day. |
White liberals care about slogans. |
Imagine how Palestinians would feel toward their Israeli occupiers then for all the massacres they've faced for the past century then. |
This reminds me of a statement made in the Nuremberg trials regarding killing children. It is similar to rhetoric amongst some Israelis to justify the death of children in Gaza: Q: Will you explain to the tribunal what conceivable threat to the security of the Wehrmacht (Nazi forces) a child constituted in your judgment? Q: Will you agree there that there was absolutely no rational basis for killing children except genocide and killing children? A: "... to achieve a security but also a permanent security because for that reason the children were people who would grow up and surely being the children of parents who had been killed they would constitute a danger no smaller than that of the parents." |
How utterly privileged of Israelis to think this began on October 7th. |
None of that is an excuse for what is happening now in Gaza. I am struggling to see how you can defend this is such back and white terms. If the reverse occurred, and Israel invaded Gaza on 10/7, would you think starvation of thousands of Israeli citizens (specifically children) was justified 19 months later? |
Unfortunatley it is "tolerated" because of religious indoctrination into a harmful, destructive believe system. |
If I admit I am ignorant about the true founding of Israel, where can I go for some unbiased information? |
This is not a bad intro book. Some reviews by Zionists say it is biased towards Palestinians, but it's going to be impossible to say something *doesn't* have a bias, if it doesn't favor your "side." fwiw, the book was recommended to me by progressive American Jews. https://www.amazon.com/Shortest-History-Israel-Palestine-Intifadas/dp/1615199500/ref=sr_1_4?crid=P5A77ZZ31HVF&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.VibIk8XS-j4GwHw0GhJ9Nw9X3T_16bynghlfOtBCFtED2vQUaAAxgkzJ-Wbc87fOPF9Hb6bQIn83smD5Gg_XoDotUFj_s98o0JM7jEo_XZjRZT89sE9JYw_tO65x5_ci92vquXFdmkCAnXzSjJp3x_Rn9l_SnYr6hWRidcbY6dFFUjttG6ZpqK4SoumocUrob0Zbbo3DDH4vNcqrTsqmCkIRfozwysb_fimDqqD1rQBQNSXLJQqwtTPVWLMShQWdCvEC_EQbhvLMj3t8Kc3P6eUuQuysc_fTNRarkrrUAG4._kpq7ZpK1fVKb08VWae0ngRYJ9eGzzcAii-j-QHkYRA&dib_tag=se&keywords=history+of+israel+and+palestine&qid=1747842541&sprefix=history+of+israel+and+palestine%2Caps%2C89&sr=8-4 |
Yes, I'm sure the young girl shown with all of her bones sticking out from starvation was cheering on 9/11. you attitude is what got us here as a human species. We have not evolved nearly enough to even be able to stop killing fellow humans over land/religion/power/greed. We can't even evolve enough to understand that living together as humans ensures our own survival, too. |
