Here is the order denying her request to be released. She tried to argue her father could be a “significant third party custodian” and that she graduated from UVA with 2 degrees so she’s an upstanding citizen and should be released pending trial. Judge said no.

So yeah, she’s using her connections as excuses. Unreal.

I don't remember seeing this detail before.

"The investigation further revealed that Ms. Hoppe allegedly used her own minor daughters as a lure to engage with the undercover officer, whom she believed to have access to a minor child."

The Complaint indicated that she began corresponding with the under cover agent under the guise of discussing “taboo parenting” - ie that she was a parent and she used that status to engage with the agent. Hopefully that’s all they mean here.

Isn’t she only entitled to a public defender is she cannot afford an attorney of her own?

She’s looking at spending a long time in prison. If I were her, I’d want the best attorney money could buy. I’m shocked her family hasn’t hired some well connected, well skilled criminal defense attorney.

Wow. I didn't really understand what was alleged in here and then read the news article. I am shocked and disgusted. Who would do something like this? I'm heartbroken for all of these kids.

The point of everyone having robust legal defense is not that the individual deserves it, it’s that the health and fairness of the judicial system depends on it.

Oh wait -- I was assuming that she did hold out her own kids in exchange for access to the other kid/s. No? That seemed the implication to me. And that even if the exchange hadn't happened yet it was understood to be a quid pro quo if she got access to the guys kid/s.

Even without this it's absolutely disgusting, but with it it is mind blowingly I would like to explode my brain awful.

This is so horrible and sad. Those poor kids (both hers and the others she distributed images of). Her kids are only 10 and 12. I cannot imagine their pain. How on earth does someone, a mother, do this to kids?

Entirely possible. But 2019 was four years ago. I can see the point of view of the family if they have done everything they feel they can to help her and aren't going to do any more. From the little I have read/seen she is either suffering from a horrific mental illness or she is an evil person. They may think prison isn't a bad place for her to be at this point.
