The Beltway is at a complete stand still

Anonymous
Anyone else in this mess? There has been a ton of traffic since about 3:30. Apparently, a tanker truck tipped over, so who knows how long this will last. This is insane. If there is ever an emergency, God forbid.....

Where are you and how does it look? Has anyone met anyone nice (or hostile), or has anything unusual happened during this hours long wait?

OP here. I don't recall the Beltway being at a complete standstill like this since the bridge jumper in the mid-late 90's! Although I know it has happened between then and now, a few times.

Also wondering if anyone has constructive advice for times like these, or (any civil engineers out there?) what infrastructure change would help matters?

Someone at work sent a note saying that WTOP said you aren't getting to MD tonight via the American Legion Bridge - uggghhhh.

I'll be suffering the overflow effects on 123.

I’m at a standstill in Palisades. Went over the Key bridge. Left McLean at 3:30 and it looks like I’ll get to Gaithersburg at about 6:30.

What a shitshow.

Maybe more than one major way to get between MD and VA!!

This is why I pay a premium to live near metro. It has its bad days, but at least I can read a book.

Let’s hope no one was seriously injured. Kudos to those who will be working tonight into tomorrow to clean up the mess.

Get the folks in Potomac, MD to drop their opposition to a new bridge. The Maryland commuters from Tyson’s have totally messed up McLean.

That said - totally empathize with you in your current predicament. Take care

Every time something like this happens I make a mental note to start checking the traffic on Google Maps or Waze before leaving every day but then I forget. I have a reverse commute on 270-SB to Rockville that was unaffected at 4:30, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's spillover by now. I saw the alert on the Post homepage at 3:00.

Ditto; and ditto.

Are all of you people posting while driving? Get off the internet.

This proves that MD drivers are the worst. A MD driver probably cut off the tanker and made it overturn.
