| I saw that too. I saw social studies teacher from Loudon expresses sincere distress aboutt this on social media. So not all teachers. But holy hell all the same. Poor children. |

| Oh c’mon. One gym teacher represents an entire county!? I live in Maryland. But I know a bunch of people who live in Louden. All of them are lovely people. There are racists and idiots everywhere. |

Yeah, and I’m pretty sure that there are plenty of people in Louden that also see this as horrible. You really believe that Fairfax and Arlington are untouched by any racism? |

DP, but no one said other areas are untouched--it's about proportions of liberal and progressive-minded people vs. those who are not. If only 1% of people in Arlington think this is okay, but 5% in Loudoun think it's acceptable, I'm going to go with the lesser of the two evils. |

I can see where the teacher was thinking of creating an experience for the kids, that would foster empathy. Help them understand what people physically endured in order to escape to freedom. A textbook doesn’t do it justice.
I don’t think this came from a mean spirited place, it just wasn’t well thought out. I’m sure the teacher didn’t consider how this would make children who might actually be descents of slaves would feel. We have a long way to go. |

Why on earth would you think it’s a new teacher? I assumed this was an older person. I can’t imagine someone under 35 doing this. Likely a well intentioned older teacher. |
