Never moving to Loudoun

Can we trust the school system to have handled the situation? I don’t.

This child will remember this incident for the remainder of his or her life.

This teacher could very well have been trying to live out some sort of sick fantasy of little black kids being slaves and I’d like to know they are nipping this in the bud. The teacher needs to be fired.

Blacks in America won’t ever return to the slave conditions they were in 200 years ago and children in public schools do not need to relive the experience.

Are you black?

Absolutely ridiculous on so many levels.

So, all the kids except the black ones should play this game? I agree it was not in the best taste--but that does not make the teacher a white supremacist. He set up an obstacle course and tried to connect it to Black History month.

So, you know the whole story? How? Do you know anything else about the teacher? From what I've read, this was a story based on one mom's version of what happened as told to her by her child.

Blacks in America won’t ever return to the slave conditions they were in 200 years ago and children in public schools do not need to relive the experience.

I certainly do not think they will either. In fact, if you don't want it taught in public schools, how about we eliminate Black History month?

I can tell a lot about this pp. I know who you voted for, what color you are, and the privilege you feel you hav. But let’s stict to the facts of the situation in question.
If you want to eliminate something in the curriculum fine. Go to the school board and state your position. However, the right thing to do is to eliminate the teacher form LCPS in this situation and if the principal wants to take responsibility, eliminate his a** from LCPS too.
If they made a mistake something should be learned from it

NP: I agree something should be learned from it, but wouldn't jump to firing. My first thought is that there's a PE teacher who got their teaching license at a time when PE teachers didn't have too much professional development/expectations/education and he made a boneheaded, insensitive decision because he hasn't thought much about race. I But I don't know--it could be worse so there needs to be an investigation. If this isn't part of a larger pattern than some professional development is needed and more thoughtful curricular review. But we already have a serious teaching shortage in this country--if teachers working conditions suck, they are perceived to get publicly shamed for mistakes, and the education requirements are high and expensive --who's going to want to join their ranks? Fewer and fewer. Teachers are not elected officials and we don't have tons of people seeking to fill the open jobs.

No. I bet the teacher has an evaluation factor that requires him to prove he observed Black History Month with his class. He was trying to come up with something that he thought the kids would enjoy. Maybe, they did, but it was a poor choice.

NP here. You’re an a**hole and next year during BHM the gym teachers should just show the kids a video of Serena Williams pitching fits at the US Open and use it to illustrate bad behavior that all children should strive to avoid.

I'm convinced the poster calling the teacher a white supremacist is just trying to sow discord and really doesn't believe any of what is posted. Don't fall for it. I definitely don't think the poster is black. What better way to rile rational whites up than to have someone posting a bunch of crazy views about the teacher being a white supremacists that should be fired....

No way. Not a PE teacher. Maybe a History teacher but not PE

Of all people why are bringing up Serena? Are you upset because she’s the greatest female tennis player of all time. I bet you’ve rooted against her every since she started playing. You hate the fact that she dominated for two decades don’t you.
Then she had the nerve to marry one of the richest white men in the world. Who does that negress think she is?
