07 ASIST Age Group

I saw that Villareal and SYA's 07s were moved from 07 age group to 06 age group. Anyone know why? It seems like there is plenty of competition for them in their own age group and moving up to 06 puts them playing 11v11 instead of 9v9. Do you think the coach/club thinks it's better to get 11v11 games in at younger age? Just curious of the reasoning. I'm not condemning. Just curious.

Can't speak directly about those two clubs, but I've seen several clubs begin to have their U12s play up in spring tourneys to get a jump start on the U13 season with the larger field size and 11 v 11. I'd guess that is the reasoning behind Villareal and SYA's decision.

Looks like OPSA 07 girls are doing the same thing.

Is it all of their 07s or just the top team? Because their blue (2nd) team was well below average in the lowest NCSL 07 division in the fall. Maybe would have suited those kids better to play ODSL. I would be awful on the kids to make them play up with 06s.

My son is on a 07 CCL team and we have played that sya team a few times. That back is line is strong, we normally score 2-3 goals/game, but i think they shut us out twice over the years.
They easily have 3-5 DA level players that I can recognize over the last few years and I thought they would lost players this year to DA, but I saw many of the same kids this fall.

I kind of wish our coach would have put us in the 11v11, we are playing the same damn teams we always play in league. So predictable. Here is the link to the CCL standings, they pretty much beat everyone in the area from what I can tell.

I'm in absolutely no rush for my 07 to play 11v11. I wish 11v11 didn't start until U14 or u15. So many more touches I feel playing 9v9 on the smaller pitch.

I hear you, but it is a delicate balance between the technical and tactical aspects of the players' development. You are dead-on that smaller field and less players = more touches and more technical development. But at some point players have to learn the tactical aspects of the larger field and 11 v 11, and one of the best ways of learning is repetition. Hence, teams getting a jump start on 11 v 11 at an age when they feel the players should have the technical tools in their locker to play on the full field.

Maybe this is the team that was top of their division in the NPL.

No win debate, but I think it's great to add the additional 4 players on the larger pitch. It provides more options, creativity, and less of the go to goal first reaction. I got the itch to see these 07s compete with the 06s now, if they are trained properly in the possession style game the bigger field will just give them more of the advantage.

It doesn’t matter if your are in a rush or not, 11v11 is just 4 months away from now.

I've never heard of Villareal outside of the pro club, but I think only teams from the top flight of that age group should be allowed to play up. I haven't seen either team play, but would you all say they would have been in that top bracket?
