Montana State University

We were just in MT skiing, and DC said that one of the top students in their class is considering this school. Looks like it's trying to do more to attract out-of-state kids with merit aid and honors program, new buildings, and who wouldn't want to live in Bozeman if you like winter sports? I think we're going to strongly consider it for DC to apply to next year. Anyone else know anything about it? Cool dinosaur museum too. There's not a lot of info on College Confidential, since I think it's just recently started revamping itself. Reminds me of a more manageable (and affordable) UC-Boulder. Maybe DC could stay here and I could move to Bozeman for 4 years?

Bozeman is a fun town. It has been rapidly gentrifying, due to many rich out of towners discovering how great it is (if you like winter). I don't know much about the quality of the education or opportunity for students post graduation...

bozeman is f-ing amazing.

steer clear of missoula though. It might look cute but it is a lot more racist and insular than bozeman.

Bozeman is amazing. Can't speak highly enough for it.

If your kid doesn't need the 'brand' or network conferred by a school due to having a strong family network and/or they are a strong self-motivate stem student (msu cs is a good program), def check it out.

QoL is great.

Bozeman is way hipper and cooler than I expected when I visited there last fall. Great college scene, amazing food scene, cute Main Street area. There is a large, young entrepreneur network there of young people opening stores, restaurants, hotels, studios, etc. Amazing place to live if you can withstand the winters.

At the risk of sounding rude, does your DC really want to spend the rest of their life telling people they graduated from Montana State?

Not OP but unique and not being sheeple is the new cool

Bozeman is popular with Colorado students wanting to go out of state at a reasonable price (WUE).

One would think it might be noticed by Californians for the same reason, if they can handle the cold.

Who f’ing cares where you go to school. I mean really, only in DCUM do people care where you went to school. So many kids are really keeping their options open. My daughter has high ranked friends at Arizona State, Colorado State, U of Wash, Ole Miss, U of South Carolina, Cal Poly, UF, Pitt, U of Georgia, Charleston and all are thriving and happy. She also has friends at Michigan, Cornell, UPenn, UVA, Williams, and Rice who aren’t thriving. They are stressed, overwhelmed, and not very happy.

Outside of this area (maybe just this board) people just don't care that much. The kid will probably never live east of the Mississippi again

It's not where you go, it's what you do.

What do you do, PP?

That is my only fear for my child. East coast flight is real and going to college out west definitely doesn’t keep anyone from actually wanting to be back on the east coast.

And what does this say about the East Coast. If the kid wants to leave, it's their life.

You’re a moron but please stay away from states like Montana. You ruin them.
