This is coming from someone who loves Baltimore, faults and all.

+1. Baltimore native. It’s great to see so many defending Baltimore after denigrating it for years over on the real estate forum. Glad you are so woke now.

No, plenty of people who post on the RE forum agree with what Trump said, about this, and about most things. They might have voted for him, too. But that doesn’t mean those of us who criticize those folks (I am one), AND who are criticizing remarks that single out the people of Baltimore, in such a crass and cruel way, by saying it’s infested and those living there are subhuman, are hypocrites.

I have spent a fair amount of time in Baltimore, lived there myself for a year. It’s an interesting place, with a lot of beauty. It’s also very economically depressed, which makes me sad, the same way the ghost towns of the Midwest make me sad. I might not want to move there, because there are fewer job opportunities, for myself and my kids in the future, but that doesn’t mean I hate the city and its people and that I don’t wish for a different outcome.

I can’t tell if the trolls are so delusional, or just trying to gaslight, but in case it’s literally a lack of understanding, let me try to explain. The issue is really one of tone and intent. It’s like, when you criticize your own family member out of frustration, you know they have faults but you love them anyway and they know that, so it’s understood. But nobody else better talk about your momma. Those are fighting words. Get it? Trump is not Baltimore’s family, and he just picked a fight. He does that a lot, like most bullies. He’s farking Biff from Back to the Future. How are you gonna root for Biff?!?!

You know that Cummings called his own district "infested" 20 years ago? And, yet, nothing has changed. If anything, it has become worse.
One has to ask why.
Yes, there are beautiful parts of Baltimore. But, for a county that has one of the highest incomes in the nation, you would think that the areas of Baltimore that are rat-infested and horribly. depressed would have received some attention by now.
I'll give props to Trump for getting the nation talking about this.........

So, you just ignored what I wrote? Gaslighting it is, I guess. Cummings is FAMIlLY. He’s earned a right to say things about and to Baltimore that Trump has NOT. Also, he didn’t say no humans would live there. Tone and intent matter, Biff.

That is such BS. You remind me of someone who tells an off-color Irish joke and says, "But I can tell that because I'm Irish."
Anyone can see the blight in portions of Baltimore. The woman who started this discussion with her videos lives in the area and she was excoriated because she dared to shine the light on the issues.
Also, Trump said that no human would WANT to live there. I bet if you ask the residents there - they would say they have no choice, but if they did, they wouldn't want to live in the conditions they have to tolerate.
And, Cummings did say the residents were walking around like "zombies."

Okay, Biff.

Typical. Can't debate the merits of an argument, so you resort to name calling.

There is no debate with you. I explained WHY it’s different, and you reject that it is. Things are different depending on who says them, and how they say it. Context and tone matter. It’s why people weren’t outraged by the word itself, or outraged when Cummings used it, but were offended when Trump tweeted. I offered you an apt analogy to explain, but you insist it’s more like someone who is Irish telling an “Irish joke.” Run outside yell some of Trumps’s tweets to random POC in the street. See what their reactions are and see what happens. Or at any meeting in your office. Or at your kids’ school. Then tell me you are right. You can’t, because we are humans and context matters. Some people can say things, or say them in certain ways, and others simply cannot. Sorry you can’t use certain words the way others can. Life isn’t fair. That why. And some people not being able to say certain things or use certain words is a whole lot less difficult to manage than having to live as a POC in this country.

Also, as a general rule, you shouldn’t say every damn thing that pops into your head, and you shouldn’t punch down. Lessons from Kindergarten.

People don't want to live with rats. They might want to live in Baltimore though, which is their home and where their family and friends live.

If your family member lived in a decrepit house would you tell him that it was disgusting and no human being would want to live there? Is that how you would address the problem.

Are Trump supporters all so tone deaf they don't understand context and delivery? Do you all have social interaction deficits?

Besides, what makes Trump so interested in Baltimore in the first place? Hint - he's not. He wanted to slam Cummings.

He couldn't care less that his son-in-law is a slumlord. Which is why none of you conservatives will address that because you know it's bad.

Here’s the thing - I care less about the delivery and more about the message. Baltimore is infested with rats. Do you really really need that to be said kindly? Saying Baltimore is worse than a third world country is really that much better? Are your feelings that delicate? This is really your biggest issue?

Yes, I do. And if you can't do that, then find someone else who can. It's called being empathetic. 93% of communication is non-verbal. Got a problem with it?

Why aren't slumlord fines being enforced?
Corrupted politicians?

Sounds like corrupt slumlords if they're not paying fines and doing what needs to be done to keep up their properties. Why do people need the government to breath down their neck to do the right thing?

This is what I’ve been saying from the beginning. No human would want to live there, willingly, among rats.

But I guess my interpretation skills aren’t up to Liberal par. And even if I’m right, and that’s what he meant, they’ll tell me I’m wrong. With absolutely no proof.

WHY AREN'T YOU DIRECTING YOUR IRE AT SLUMLORDS LIKE JARED KUSHNER THEN?

Geez. You people are so disingenuous. And you have disgusting views and no one believes you care about Baltimore at all you hypocrite. Oh sorry, did I hurt your feelings?

Interesting debate tactic. Make something up (I am not directing my ire at slumlords, I must simply love them!), then take off with that, and post insults and call me a hypocrite.

I gotta try that sometime. When they go low you go high, right?

A word about slumlords: they do not make the buildings bad. The people living in them make them bad.

It's not just the slum lords.

The entire system is corrupt from top to bottom. There are some good people, trying to do good things. And they're surrounded by people doing whatever they can to get whatever they can.
