I have spent a fair amount of time in Baltimore, lived there myself for a year. It’s an interesting place, with a lot of beauty. I might not want to move there, because there are fewer job opportunities, for myself and my kids in the future, but that doesn’t mean I hate the city and its people and that I don’t wish for a different outcome.

Yes, there are beautiful parts of Baltimore. But, for a county that has one of the highest incomes in the nation, you would think that the areas of Baltimore that are rat-infested and horribly. depressed would have received some attention by now.

Know how you feel. I grew up in Baltimore but it was clear that I would never be able to live there as an adult. My parents hung on because they were very active in their Catholic Church doing outreach programs. They, their church, and house were criminalized so much that they gave up after the 2015 looting and moved near us. My mother actually had to be treated for PTSD because she couldn’t let down her guard. They were the last of our family to flee, and we only return to family graves.

Yes, there are beautiful parts of Baltimore. But, for a county that has one of the highest incomes in the nation, you would think that the areas of Baltimore that are rat-infested and horribly. depressed would have received some attention by now.

Anyone can see the blight in portions of Baltimore. The woman who started this discussion with her videos lives in the area and she was excoriated because she dared to shine the light on the issues.
Also, Trump said that no human would WANT to live there. I bet if you ask the residents there - they would say they have no choice, but if they did, they wouldn't want to live in the conditions they have to tolerate.
And, Cummings did say the residents were walking around like "zombies."

No, plenty of people who post on the RE forum agree with what Trump said, about this, and about most things. They might have voted for him, too. But that doesn’t mean those of us who criticize those folks (I am one), AND who are criticizing remarks that single out the people of Baltimore, in such a crass and cruel way, by saying it’s infested and those living there are subhuman, are hypocrites.

I have spent a fair amount of time in Baltimore, lived there myself for a year. It’s an interesting place, with a lot of beauty. It’s also very economically depressed, which makes me sad, the same way the ghost towns of the Midwest make me sad. You'd be more believable if you and Trump were also calling out the horrible conditions in rural red America and calling the representatives of those areas to task "to bring about real change." I defy you to find Trump ever calling parts of rural Appalachia disgusting shitholes.
