There is no amount of non-drinking that will prevent a rape. Sometimes you fall unconscious, due to spiking or slipping something in your drink, even if you turn away for a second, or have your drink brought by a trusted same-sex friend. Shit happens. The only thing that can prevent rape, is to just not rape someone. There is NO amount of perfect protection a woman can take. Teach your sons not to rape girls and women. You may think it goes without saying, but clearly it does not. That's how you prevent rape - not by staying sober. |
Okay. Thanks! |
What if they were so impaired by alcohol or drugs that they didn't notice or didn't care. |
That's the point. Guys need to understand what can happen if they get wasted and try to hook up with a girl and why they, the guys, shouldn't put themselves in that kind of situation either. Telling college kids no drinking til 21, etc. is all fine and good, but many college kids will do all of those things regardless of what their parents said. The entirety of the lesson cannot be "don't get drunk" or "don't sleep with anyone unless you're dating." |
Then they run the risk of getting charged and convicted of rape, just like this kid did. |
Not "they." HE. THIS GUY. He wasn't so drunk that he couldn't run away when the Swedes called out to him, though. |
And how about, women are not puzzles to solve so you can score. Women are human beings, and sex is not the end goal of an obstacle course. |
PP, would you feel the same way about drunk muggers? Do you feel the same way about drunk drivers? |
You think you're being cute, but PP is correct. |

Parents only teach their teens and college-age children so much. Do you think parents teach their boys to rape, their children to get blitzed and hook up with strangers? |
I don't need to prove it. The prosecutor proved it to the jury beyond a reasonable doubt. It has already been proven in a court of law. You're trying to find a way to excuse him and make him not guilty. His lawyer couldn't do it, and he was getting paid. Give it up. |
It makes no sense to recall a judge for one sentence that is unpopular, especially in a high profile case. |
No, you're right, you can only teach your kids so much. Some people do a better job than others, obviously. And there are some legitimately bad people in this world, such as Brock Allen Turner (and all other rapists) for which no amount of teaching will change that fact. |
