What SHOULD Dems do?

Wide coalition
Narrow coalition

You are saying you would rather have a narrow than a wide set of voters.

This is how D’s lose.

The action I’m proposing is getting is giving the voters what they want, both now in government and in a new policy platform for the campaign trail. My proposed action is, try to win elections.

What are your proposed actions?

How do you propose getting through to voters in rural areas whose only news outlet is AM talk radio, and they’ve been told for thirty years that Democrats are devil worshippers?

How do you propose getting through to college kids who listen exclusively to Andrew Tate and Joe Rogan?

How do you propose getting through to a voter who doesn’t watch TV or listen to news or follow politics at all, but they think Trump is funny and tells it like it is?

Rural voters know exactly what the New York Times perspective is. It’s ubiquitous. It is we who live in a media bubble, by choice. Most of us avoid conservative media like the plague as a matter of purity principle.

Rural voters (and swing voters of all kinds) have a good understanding of what our party offers. They just don’t want it.

So we can either change, in hopes of winning more votes (and elections), or we can stay pure with our unpopular policies and remain the minority party.

No. Absolutely none of this is true. Rural voters do not have a good understanding of what Democrats offer. It’s all filtered fourth and fifth hand through layers of disinformation, Facebook conspiracy groups, bro podcasts, and right wing cable news. These outlets lie and lie and lie. Their viewers think Hillary Clinton is running a sex ring out of the basement of a pizza parlor. Fox News viewers consistently rank very low in factual understanding of the news.

Of course those voters don’t want what they think the Democratic party represents. That’s because Republicans are allowed free rein to characterize the party in the most alarmist, unflattering, and distorted terms possible.

Giving the voters what they want doesn’t work when what those voters want is supremacy, even if it comes at a steep personal cost. There’s already a party devoted to giving that to them. It’s called MAGA.

We know

We see it with our own eyes

Millions invading the border and taking taxpayer funds

You just proved the PP point about propaganda.

Many Democrats say that there was no third world immigration under Biden and Mayorkas and Harris. They say Democrats are actually tiugher on the border than Trump. Democrats should campaign on this message.

This thread is trash. Trolls, many of whom are fake Democrats, abound. I’ll say it again, MAGA mouth breathers are scared. That’s why they’re keeping this thread alive.

So Booker has been speaking on the floor since last night. I hope that more continue to speak. Non stop. Every single Dem senator should take the floor.

Liz Cheney cost Kamala more votes than she gained her.

Liz Cheney was a perfect example of Upper Middle Class Striver Dems projecting their unusual ideas into the electorate. Only affluent urban hyperpartisans cared even a tiny bit about the J6 committee. And only a few Never Trump Republicans pretended to miss the Cheneys when talking to their high strung Democrat friends and colleagues. Outside of intense Dems on dcurbanmoms (and similar in NYC, BOS, LA, SFO), Liz Cheney has less than zero following or support. Dems punked themselves.

Exactly. Democrats are rising, and Republicans are scared. This weekends protests should help further those dynamics.

Cory Booker is an American Hero.

I am a little disappointed that this long thread hasn’t delivered any ideas about how Democrats can win back voters, though. It seems like the thread consists of:

Moderate Dems who want a Republican lite candidate like Mark Kelly and hate the idea of progressive candidates

Progressive Dems who want AOC and hate the idea of milquetoast white male candidates

Mayor Pete adorers who hope he can square the circle

Believers in vague “messaging” improvements

People suggesting reworked policy priorities. Of that last category, 60% are MAGA trolls trying to scare us off our agenda, get us to abandon some of our constituent groups and principles, etc. 20% are disaffected Dems who are already kind of “out.” These Dems-in-name-only will bail on our party if we run a POC or a woman. And only 20% are legit committed Dems evaluating our policy strategy.

Overall, I haven’t seen any new ideas out of 1000 posts. No-one seems to thing introspection or change are reasonable responses to our recent loss of power. .

^This. He’s very interesting. Strong black man. But light skinned. Bald like Mark Kelly, but rocks it better. Loud and yelly, but never whiny. Confident. Very connected to NYC donor network. Still unmarried at age 55. Articulate. Ambitious. Seems younger than he is. Still kind of a blank slate. He’s one to watch.

Cory Booker is DNA cousins with RuPaul, which is fabulous! https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=382098414717459&vanity=FindingYourRootsPBS

Wait, Cory Booker is doing a filibuster, but without any legislation TO filibuster? Is this just a really really long speech? I don’t get it. I like it! But I don’t quite get it.

They start with an apology to me. What they did with Biden I and Biden campaign II was wrong.

I want an apology and then I can start fresh.

Being a Democrat means never having to say you’re sorry. And never admitting the Party has made any mistakes. The 1000 posts in this thread make that abundantly clear. Even the issues that clearly hurt us badly at the ballot box are absolute non-negotiables. The voters need to apologize to us for their stupidity and insolence.
