12:13 here -- absolutely correct. |
Anybody seen comments from K and 1st teachers on GBRS form submitted to the committee?
I didn't see on mine. |
So seems like some school use K and 1st information, but some school not?
Yup, there goes another inconsistency. |
No -- it is used for placement in classrooms, as in planning for placement in classrooms for September 2011. Much of that placement occurs over the summer, with the final placements announced just before the start of school. |
So it's used for placement in classrooms, but not in AAP? We are talking AAP here. |
The AART teacher at our school said they do an informal scale on kids at the end of K and beg of 1st for placement in pull-out for 1st and 2nd grade. My child was pulled out for reading and math in 1st and 2nd grade and had a high scale according to her K and 1st grade teacher. But he screening file GBRS does not show that. Her screening file did not even have pull-out reading and math checked off and the comments were one sentence 3 words long for each category. I made sure to send in her AAP report card for 1st grade and for part of 2nd grade with our appeal with all the categories checked off as her exceeding all areas. |
I am reakky, reakky satisfied. It gets at all the most important elements for determining if your child is gifted. |
13:24 similar situation here at our child School. My child was pulled out for reading and math in 1st and 2nd grade and she was is in the highest group even her teacher told me couple of times. But he screening file GBRS does not show that. Her screening file did not even have pull-out reading and math checked off.All other mothers were really surprised, because their kids were in the same pull out group. When I asked the teacher she immediately changed the topic. She knew that she made mistake, and she already screwed up the GBRS. |
Doesn't matter whether anything is compiled or whatever they do in K and 1st. Does it become part of GBRS that is submitted to the AAP central selection committee. That is the interest on this board. |
12:13 Please do not spread false information as facts.
Other people at least mention 'I think', 'In my opinion', I heard' distinguishing it from verified facts. |
13:24 here....2 of the kids that I know got in were not even in pull-out and one is not on 2nd grade reading level. Our daughter was also in the highest reading group and so she wouldn't be the only one in her group, her classroom teacher told me that they were keeping her with the other 2 children in the group below. |
Thank you for that link and to whoever posted the 2004-2005 admission stats. One of my kids didn't get in and we didn't appeal, because his GBRS is dismal (he daydreams a lot, isn't on task much, etc.) and I figured he didn't have a chance. Based on the posts here I'm thinking maybe we should try next year but he is much much stronger in math than verbal. Does anyone know if the committee will accept the SB5 in addition to or in lieu of the WISC? Will most psychologists in this area administer the SB5 if asked? |
This is news to me. How do I get a copy of my DD's "GBRS" after K and 1st grade? Is it in their file? I would have liked to see it before putting the appeal package together. More secrets not shared with the parents. Why is this not shared with the parents automatically? There is so much done behind the scenes and intentionally kept from the parents. It is maddening. |
Stanford Binet can be submitted instead of WISC in Fairfax. I wanted my DC to take it because I heard it's not timed like the WISC, but the psychologist we used insisted on the WISC. You might try GMU, I think they might do it for you. |
GMU only does WISC. The psychologist suggested Stanford Binet for my DD since my DD is not so good with timed testing. |
