GT/AAP Appeals

First of all, is your child currently in 2nd grade? (makes a difference in what may help) What were your child's other scores? GBRS?

Thanks for the quick response. She is in 3rd grade now. Don't know about GBRS and others were 128 & 110 from second grade testing.

Definitely contact AART for a copy of your child's packet. Then you can see what areas were weaker and that is where you would need to provide more documentation of needed AAP services.

Agree- you need to see what the GBRS is and the comments to understand what was submitted by the school. I don't know if you can submit any other materials this year given it's the WISC (you can call the aap office at fcps- not your local school).. you could let the school know that you want your child to take the cogat again next year (they need advanced notice) since that is 3 sections and gives you a greater chance of scoring above the cut off criteria)..

FSIQ of 147 is excellent. Can't believe your kid was not found eligible for the AAP! You should consider writing a detailed letter about why you think your kid needs AAP. You could also submit letters of recommendation if you have not already done so. Good luck!

maybe he/she tried to set the school on fire or something like that. A lot of factors go into these decisions you know.

Thanks for all the responses. I called school to get the package to find out what was submitted. I'm pretty sure she set the school on fire, she has all 4s in that subject, but I'm puzzled what other factors could be?

GBRS is 8! But the comments are good from her teacher.

Just FYI: The comments are always good. GBRS cannot include anything negative whatsoever. So focus on perhaps what the teacher didn't say, to determine areas you may want to bolster.

Hello

My kid has the following scores and was not eligible. What are the suggestions/chances for appeal -

NNAT 143 (99%)
COGAT (126,142,131) 99%
GBRS 10
Report card will all 4s and comments indicating good application of strategies , however GBRS rating seems to be the reason.

WISC if you can afford it. Parent referral form if you haven't already done it. More detailed letter addressing why your child needs AAP if you haven't already submitted your 5 additional pages. Also letters of recommendation from those who can speak to your child's strengths (again if you haven't already submitted 5 pages). Ignore the naysayers.

Agree with PP. I think a strong WISC would help on appeal. Those are good test scores in all areas, should do well on the WISC

We did put in a good parent referral along with all the awards standing out as well, unfortunately does GBRS override everything? What is the point then of others even ...

Looking at options of appeal with no WISC or WISC

May be the GBRS comments were poorly written?? I mean not citing any specific examples?

The comments seem to be reasonable, but not sure if anyone reads them.
