Breaking your fast

Anonymous
I'm fasting right now. I'm anticipating breaking the fast tonight (48 hours) or tomorrow (60 hours). What are YOUR best foods to break a fast with?
(I am drinking tea and water. Tried a sip of bone broth but that was unpalatable).

nothing heavy, soup, toast, fruit. Eat something small to break fast then eat something larger 30 min later.

Soup for dinner!
I'm on the last legs of this fast, so looking forward to a warm soup for dinner. Great suggestion, thank you.

I always have some sort of protein. Eggs, meat, smoothie with a scoop of protein powder, etc.

BRAT

Also reasonable.
I'm not much into bananas, rice, or toast, though. I love toast (but it doesn't love me), I love rice (but the carbs, for the love of god, the carbs!), bananas I only like if they are perfectly ripe, and sometimes not even then, so that leaves apples. ....

My heart is actually pumping hard right now. Like I can feel my pulse.
Going to drink some more water.

Woah. Should have gone worth the BRAT diet.

I understand intermittent fasting, but when people here reference a 48 hour fast, does this mean they are literally not eating / starving themselves for 48 hours ??

There are so many benefits to fasting. And if you have some excessive body fat you will not be starving - your body will simply switch to "eating" its own fat. You may want to read Dr. Jason Fung, he explains it really well. There is lots of info online.

I just broke my second fast (39 hrs) with two walnuts (as I've read fasting gurus recommend nuts or olives) and in 15 minutes, had milk and coffee (lots of milk). I felt fine.

I do for the health benefits. I like the autophagy benefits. I like that I never ever have a headache or stomachache when fasting. I like reducing inflammation in my body. I like knowing it supports a healthy blood pressure. I like the willpower it takes. I don't mind losing weight (there is always 5 more pounds to go, y'know? But I do know this is not really weight loss).

I have never had diarrhea coming off a fast before, but this time I did. Unpleasant.

I do drink water and tea during fasting. Green, white, black.
