I just checked VDA's U12's and there are TWO! one in Nov and one in Dec. The next youngest is September. Contrast that with 12 kids born between January and April. Sorry but the numbers will never bare out that Oct-Dec birthdays are even proportionally represented on teams like DAs at the youngest ages. |
Arlington U12s born between Oct-Dec? 3 Arlington kids born between Jan and April? 11 |
Continental FC U12 boys
Oct-Dec? 2 Jan-April? 7 |
PA Classics U12 Boys
Oct-Dec? 2 Jan-Apr? 13 |
Dear lord -- get a life!!!!
FACT: With the new birth-year age groups, the DA will have some 10-year-olds now. A ton? No. But some. So to say, as someone did, that there aren't 10-year-olds in the DA is FACTUALLY INACCURATE. Take the minor correction and move on with your day! Geez! |

Oct-Dec? 5 Jan-Apr? 12 I could keep going on but most teams do not yet have their rosters posted still but it won't change anything. RAE is real and NO there are not "Lots" of kids on DA teams born in the last four months. So no, there are not lots of ten year old kids being dragged to far away practices. |
Exactly. The DA has their pick of top players to chose from. A lot of people are willing to drive further to get their kid into DA so there is a large player pool. The edge will always go to the kids born in the first 4 months of the year. |
No the context was this persons post: "^^ with DA pushed back to younger and younger ages and only a few locations---it's unrealistic that people are going to drive their 10-year olds 4-nights per week in 1-hour long rush hour traffic. " How dramatic! 10 year olds four nights a week! It sounds so much more shocking to say 10 year olds versus the actual truth of mostly 12-11 year olds and very few 10 year olds. But stating the actual reality doesn't fit the narrative that these poor kids are being pushed to hard when it isn't simply true but it sure does sound terrible. |
What is actually interesting is that it took a total of 5 U12 DA teams to have enough Oct-Dec born players to even roster the bare minimum of a single team of 14 kids. |
Actually since your last statement failed to condition the 10 year old kids only from DA, there are plenty of 10 year old kids being dragged off to far away practices to be on a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th(they exist) team for their maybe U12, U11, or perhaps U11(next year). I'm trolling... |
Soccer is suppose to be fun, if you're dragging your kid to practice, give it up. |
I'll take the bait anyway ![]() On most clubs 2nd-4th or lower teams the birth-date distribution is more even through all four quarters of the year. But most clubs A teams whether they are DA or not are usually similarly unevenly distributed at the younger ages. With that understanding, it makes very little sense to drive a 2nd or 4th team kid to anything other than the best of the most convenient clubs to play soccer. |
unless the training sucks or the club is filled with a bunch of d*cks. Individual development is the most important in U12 and below. At the youngest ages, being on a 2nd on down team is irrelevant. At U13 and U14, almost none of the A team superstars from U9/10 are on any of the top teams---DA or A team. A few may continue to excel, but many of the little superstars aren't superstars down the road. |
Here's another one of those actual facts that get lost in the shuffle around here. There are actually a fair amount of 07s on the current U12 DAs in this area and beyond. Many of those have birthdays in the early part of the year and are being lumped in with the meaningless statistics being thrown around. |
Yup, I was actually going to redo the numbers to include Sept as well. VDA is a bit a of an outliar with the number of playups as opposed to the other clubs I presented. VDA and I believe the Boston team have 2-3 playups. A couple teams have zero playups and most have just one. |
