I think it is a bit much to pick on the picture of a six year old child.

I mean they didn't have to do it at all if it was really about disruptions. The video wasn't needed. It's cheesy they being mocked for it and have come up with a lame excuse.

It’s also ridiculous that it’s from so long ago. I’m a nobody in Bethesda and we take family photos a few times a year. It’s not that hard to set up the DSLR on a tripod and take a photo in the backyard. Will and Kate have an actual videographer on their full time staff so the idea that they didn’t have another opportunity rings hollow. Hiring the Corporate PR guy is just weird. It looks like a commercial.

I think it IS a commercial. It’s a perfectly lovely British family — filmed with the sensibilities of a Ralph Lauren ad. And it provides quite a contrast to the more dashing Harry and his biracial wife and kid. I think William has probably enjoyed being portrayed as “the good one.” I also think that the audience for this sort of stuff is limited and shrinking. I dislike it, but if it works, it will certainly seem like a savvy move on their part.

It's pretty gross to to bring race into it and imply that William thinks he's "the good one" for having a white wife. There's no evidence for that at all. And I disagree - William, Kate, and the kids are pretty well-liked in the UK, and their family draws a lot of positive interest. I think that's definitely one reason why they've started releasing more photos of George, Charlotte, and Louis, and allowed them to be filmed in this video. And I (American WOC, btw) loved the video.

I’m not sure why you, as as “American WOC” think that mentioning someone’s race is “gross”.
That stance on your part may be leading you to make inferences that reflect your own assumptions. No one suggested that “William, Kate and the kids” are not “pretty well-liked”. It is curious though, that they have recently started releasing more pictures and the video — a change that you, yourself, pointed out. So let’s leave it at that, and each of us will continue to be free to draw our own conclusions, which may or may not have any actual accuracy.

I'm not sure why you think I said mentioning someone's race (as a blanket statement) is gross. I think mentioning someone's race in a context where it's not warranted is suspicious, whatever their race is. And that moves into the "gross" category when it's used to suggest that there's racist intent in a situation where there's little or no other evidence to reach that conclusion. If you genuinely weren't making that allegation, then I recognize I was incorrect for assuming it. If you weren't that PP, as you said, we're free to interpret the post differently.

I'm disagreeing that there's a "limited and shrinking audience for this kind of stuff [the video]" precisely because William, Kate, and the kids are popular in the UK, which really IS the audience for this stuff. The line I quoted seems to suggest the opposite (that W&K are not popular). Certainly I agree that they're bringing out the kids to take advantage of the fact that family photos/content play really well. They're celebrities (of a sort) and are clearly being advised by PR. So what?

Princess Charlotte looks beautiful in her 6th birthday photo! A mini-Prince William!

Her hair color looks identical to Prince George's. I imagine it gets naturally lighter in the sun. Lovely photo! We never really see it down in photos.

The kids have always drawn a lot of positive interest that’s clearly not the reason why they have been releasing more photos because that hasn’t changed.

I also liked the video but I think we may be in the minority on that one.

dp I liked the video too pp

All the birthday photos with negative comments were deleted. Probably for the best.

I will say, Kate should take some photoshop classes. That was really weird use of filters.

Nobody is picking on the child. If anything, people are saying she’s a cute kid. Most 6 year olds are.

We are criticizing Kate Middleton for going nuts on the photoshop filters. It’s distracting!

What filters? I don't know what you mean. The photo of Charlotte is lovely.

All the comments were deleted—probably because Jeff doesn’t want children of celebrities to be criticized. People were convinced something had happened to her hair and Kate dyed it to fix it and that’s why it looked highlighted. It’s just a little too much amateur photoshop. I bet the untouched photo would have looked a hundred times better.

It is lovely. But the photo that was originally posted here was heavily filtered, as evidenced by the actual photo from the papers that was posted more recently.

I’m not sure how much we can actually say without getting deleted, but it’s really bad amateur photoshop.

I think their staff photographer insisted on clarifying that Kate took that photo.

They were deleted because someone posted a fake, overexposed, overedited picture. Jeff kept the real picture. There was a huge difference, the real picture looks normal and natural.

That's because someone posted their own really bad photoshopped version of the picture (I'm guessing someone from the I love Meghan thread). You're all talking about the old photo that someone posted, which was not the original. Scroll up and you'll the see the original is much better.
