Walter Johnson and Wooten are the schools that homes go for less for value shoppers.

Doubt it will make much difference. This is like a Toyota for a Honda switch.

WJ won't be the same WJ we know right now. It will make a huge difference.

How so?

If you think there is no difference between Einstein HS and WJ right now then any boundary change won't make WJ different.

If you think there is difference between Einstein and WJ right now then Boundary change will make a big difference to WJ.

Have good looked at a map?

It's WJ losing neighborhoods to the new Woodward HS.

And WJ gaining NEW $ development residents (like the the radio tower acres off of Fernwood Road).

Demography has more weight now in any boundary decisions. BOE won't be making WJ and Woodward too different and that means WJ and Woodward, both will take elementary schools from DCC in equal proportion to balance demography.

WJ and Woodward are so close that boundary can be drawn anyway to balance demography.

You do know that WJ isn't going to receive any more kids or any kids from different ESs, right? Woodward is being built to take kids from WJ and either Einstein or Wheaton. Einstein and WJ are already at capacity.

Also, by this PPs logic, if the boundaries change then WJ will become a "worse" school and Einstein will become a "better" school (at least according to Great Schools). Yet, these "the sky is falling" posters will NEVER tell potential buyers to buy in the Einstein zone, even if you follow their logic Einstein is going to start getting kids from Kensington-Parkwood and other WJ ES districts, which would of course raise Einstein's GS rating and increase home values in Einstein, especially close to the Metro.

Because they never advocate that a smart investment for home buyers would be buying in Einstein given this logic, you can tell they're either trolling or don't even believe what they're saying.

These "sky is falling / Kensington is going to turn into Langley Park in 10 years" posters are operating off of ignorance, a tremendous fear and anxiety about brown people and a lot of other stuff...being well informed about economic development in the County and where it is tracked to go (hint: A LOT of it is headed for the WJ zone up and down Rockville Pike between I-495 and Twinbrook Metro) is not something that I expect these posters to know or care about. They are prepping in their bunkers for this fantastical future where WJ-zoned kids will be forced into Einstein to be inducted into MS-13 by gunpoint or something .

We actually don't know that. If they send one middle school (Tilden) and its feeders to Woodward, then they'd have room to send some DCC ESs to both WJ and Woodward.

So you think BOE will simply put 4 ES from DCC and one from WJ in Woodward?

Given focus on balancing demography, it's almost certain that WJ and Woodward , both will take few ES from DCC.

Plenty of posters have suggested that buying just outside of WJ boundary is good investment. That means many areas of Einstein.

Boundary will be decided in few years. MCPS is going to use numbers exist as of right now and not what's going to happen after 10-20 or 30 years.

There is very little chance of WJ kids to attend Einstein. DCC schools are over crowded. More liekly scenrio is Woodward and WJ will take couple of ES from DCC.

BCC isn't in the Mix, It already has taken on it's fair share of low income kids

Yes it is. Read the CIP:

Planning Study: A Site Selection Committee was held in
spring 2018, to identify possible sites for a new elementary
school in the Walter Johnson Cluster. The projected space
deficits at the elementary school level in the cluster are not sufficient
to recommend a new elementary school for the Walter
Johnson Cluster at this time. The adopted CIP includes a capacity
study for the elementary schools in the Bethesda-Chevy
Chase Cluster. The superintendent recommends expanding
the capacity study to explore possible solutions that would
include the elementary schools in both the Walter Johnson
and Bethesda-Chevy Chase clusters. Once the capacity study
is complete, a recommendation to address the overutilization
at the elementary school level in both clusters will be included
for consideration in the next CIP. The revitalization/expansion
project for Luxmanor Elementary School includes additional
capacity to allow for the reassignment of students to address
a portion of the overutilization at the elementary school
level in the Walter Johnson Cluster. A boundary study will
be considered once the capacity study is complete in order
to make holistic decisions for all of the elementary schools in
both the Walter Johnson and Bethesda-Chevy Chase clusters.

What BCC elementary schools are being overutilized? Just Bethesda and Somerset, right? NCC, CC and Westbrook are under capacity. This seems like more of a note that they will need to move some people out of Somerset and into Westbrook or Chevy Chase and maybe build a new Elementary School in East Bethesda to deal with the Bethesda Elementary School overcrowding.

Moving kids to Chevy Chase, however, is complicated because it does not have K-2 on site. They go to Rosemary Hills.

WJ opening has been delayed. This concern about WJ will last longer now.

For someone new to the area and looking at real estate in MD, is there a good resource to catch me up on this issue? Cliff's notes?

There are people who are currently zoned for WJ that are concerned that their kids will be redistricted to a new high school that is scheduled to be built at the old Woodward HS site. This site will be used to house Northwood HS students, starting in the 2023-2024 school year, until construction is finished on Northwood. That means that there is a realistic possibility that students from WJ won’t be redistricted until 2025 or 2026.
