FCPS Skyview Boundary Revised Scenario 1 / 2

I've no idea if it is wise to expand Centreville. Seems like if there is room for all those kids and they don't want to move any out. Therefore, there is no need for expansion. Expansion completion would be years away.

I'm a Chantilly parent and emailed the entire SB individually and Reid's office about keeping the Chantilly Mews kids here. I got a form reply about a public hearing from Reid's assistant and nothing from anyone else.
Not even a "thanks for reaching out" form email.

Yes. Crickets from all of them.

Ugh, I’ve been so disappointed by this whole process. I’m not a Westfield parent but I’ll try sending an email too.

And many others don’t want to see their school left with only 1800-1900 kids just because Westfield thinks it needs 2300 or 2400 kids to remain competitive.

Tell us the last time FCPS didn’t expand a high school that was being renovated in anticipation of future growth.

I think they were incredibly naive. They thought everyone in western Fairfax would love them for upending the CIP to spend money on a new HS near Carson. I’m sure most of them gave very little thought until recently to what the back end adjustments might look like, and even then most are probably just hunkered down and deferring to Reid and Dixit.

Spoke in the 1st community meeting after the 1/2 revisions came out regarding Westfield. Basically ignored while they touted how awesome the change was for Lees Corner. Then ended up sending an email to the whole board regarding the middle school and high school misalignments after the single scenario came out. Just received a canned response from Dixit today referencing Wesfield, but nothing regarding Stone, Liberty or RR. So clear she didn't even bother to read the letter. No response from anyone else and its been over a week.

Looks like a reassessment of the CVHS renovation is on the school board docket for tonight:

“I move that the School Board authorize the Superintendent to negotiate a temporary lease agreement for a lease extension on the Fairfax County School Board’s property at 4630 Stonecroft Blvd, Chantilly, VA 20151 and an area of land at Braddock Park (13000 Braddock Rd, Clifton, VA 20124) sufficient to enable the school division to satisfy Fairfax County’s Floor Area Ratio (FAR) zoning requirements for Centreville High School, including FAR requirements associated with the school division’s planned renovation and expansion of that facility.

I further move that the School Board direct the Superintendent to evaluate, through staff, the planned renovation at Centreville High School, including the projected program capacity of the renovated facility and planned construction in the surrounding area, and provide the School Board with an update, by August 28, 2026, on any resulting impacts to the project scope, timeline, construction planning, or capacity assumptions.”

Remember:
We were in the midst of a comprehensive boundary study.
Chantilly was bursting at the seams.
Westfield was full.
South Lakes was full.
Oakton close to being overcrowded.
Fairfax full.

This school was needed. Period.

Literally no Westfield parent on here has said anything about "remaining competitive". What does that even mean?

That was mentioned earlier in the thread. It’s on the consent agenda so it’s not even supposed to be discussed in any detail - it’s just supposed to happen.

I am not sure why this is the refrain to any post that questions how they’ve gone about setting the Skyview boundaries or backfilling Westfield.

You can think it’s great they bought KAA and still think they’re making questionable boundary decisions, whether it’s leaving Crossfield at Oakton or only backfilling Westfield with poorer neighborhoods.

So your “period” is only a comma, at best.

DP. I don’t think most of us are against the purchase. We are against taking 700 students out of Westfield without any apparent thought to how that would impact the school and leaving other schools at or over capacity and gerrymandering catchment areas because people called in favors or badgered the School Board.

There are kids along Walney being sent to Westfield. Hopefully.. they won't send Chantilly Mews because that would be a hardship to that community.

I've no idea what the Centreville/Westfield issue is, but we were told that Centreville is overcrowded and there are a lot of trailers there. That could be addressed if Dixit would do so. That is her problem.

But, had there been no Skyview, what would have been the result? Answer: highly overcrowded Chantilly and overcrowded Westfield with continuing overcrowding at Centreville.

That is a result of poor decision making on the part of Reid and Dixit. There is a solution, but Skyview is not the problem.

Westfield was not overcrowded. They were under capacity.

By about 60 students.
13 temporary classrooms
New construction in the boundary. Lots of it.

And, the Skyview kids are isolated from the school and the school community.
