Lebanon / Israel

Meanwhile, per Forbes Israel, there are 274 Jewish billionaires with a collective wealth in excess of two trillion dollars.

Remind me why a working stiff like me is paying for this war?

Not in my name.

Meanwhile, the gulf states, among the richest countries on the planet, refuse to take in Gazan refugees, or any Palestinians because they don’t like Palestinians and don’t want them living in their countries.

Besides, what’s wrong with Israel eliminating radical Islamic terrorists, in the same way President Obama eliminated UBL ?

Israel has a right to defend itself.

Why would a Gulf State invite Hamas in to assassinate their leaders, again?

Quotes from ME leaders and news outlets about the Axis of Resistance:

It was first used by a Libyan newspaper in 2002.

2004, Iranian newspaper: If the line of Iraq's Shi'is needs to be linked, united, and consolidated, this unity should be realized on the axis of resistance and struggle against the occupiers.

2006, Palestinian minister of the interior: Syria is also an Islamic Arab country and is also targeted by the Americans and the Zionists. Hence, we see in Syria, Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas an axis of resistance in front of these pressures.

2010, Iranian foreign affairs minister: The chain of resistance against Israel by Iran, Syria, Hezbollah, the new Iraqi government, and Hamas passes through the Syrian highway... Syria is the golden ring of the chain of resistance against Israel

2012, Syrian leadership: What is happening in Syria is not an internal issue, but a conflict between the axis of resistance and its enemies in the region and the world. Iran will not tolerate, in any form, the breaking of the axis of resistance, of which Syria is an intrinsic part

You act as though the US is this angelic entity in the world. The goal of the US in the middle east to extraction and exploitation of power. Iran has a defensive nuclear posture and has indicated time and time again that they would be willing to agree to a nuclear proliferation treaty and have agreed with Egypt's call to create a denuclearized region in the middle east. The US does not want this because Israel is either our lapdog for control in the region or vice versa (depends on who you ask and who you believe gets more out of this relationship).

Not that the US shouldn't legally supply aid to Israel given that Israel (most likely**) has nuclear weapons, chemical weapons, and other weapons of mass destruction. However, since Israel is a client state of the US and helps US corporate interests in the region, there is no reason for us to enforce this. Thus, we accept their purposeful ambiguity in regards to their nuclear capabilities as it serves our interests. Alternatively, you can believe that we are their puppets. Either way, it really is one in the same argument as "we" the small time (aka anyone making less than $2M / year) is a slave to the same system. Keep chugging along. Keep paying your taxes. Keep watching as somehow you work harder and harder, yet you never reap the fruit of your labor.

:!:

My post didn’t mention the US at all.

Why are you so triggered by basic facts about regional alliances?

Axis of Resistance has this deeply negative connotation to it. It is a US based term for sure and the negative connotation serves certain interests in that space.

I wouldn't say triggered. Just reading Chomsky at the moment and thought I'd say what I recently learned with the class. It's quite eye opening.

Are you 19 and taking your first international relations class? Grow up.

Quite a bit older... Majored in something that actually makes money, so frankly - I never took an international relations class... Learning this stuff now because the US education system decided the Unit Circle, The mitochondria, and stoichiometry mattered more to my prosperity than actually understanding what's going on in the world. The modern propagandistic media machine is a joke and my eyes have been opened to that through my studies of Israel/Gaza.

Where are you taking this class? The university of pseudo intellectual babble?

Seems like this is tracking into A full scale war.

Where is Biden/Harris on this? Maybe we should ask Jill for help.

Where are Biden and Harris? Is that serious question? They are the ones sending US troops to the Middle East right now.

Maybe give a damn update or press conference on why you are sending 3000 US troops to this conflict. What are your goals. What is the plan????????????

Where is Biden and Harris????????????????

There was no state department press briefing or white house briefing today, except a short audio gaggle on the airplane. I see no press release from the white house. It's ridiculous.

We're talking about 500 people killed, thousands injured in a single day, by an ally using our weapons, and nearly nothing from the white house?

Vote accordingly.
Or rather, don’t.
A vote for Harris is a vote for troops in the Middle East.

+1

And you think Trump wouldn’t send troops?

I do not, yes.

What on earth makes you think that?

His four years in office

Now do Harris. She is in office now.

Last I checked, the VP isn’t the commander in chief.

Trump had no reason to deploy troops during his time in office. But he did love on Bibi nonstop.

Biden was forced out of the election because he is unfit having mentally deteriorated. Harris has been effectively in charge of this country for months. Not only that, she has stated that she supports Biden’s foreign policy actions. So remind me again how voting for her is anything other than voting for military action in the Middle East?

Trump and GOP Congress members condemned Biden for pausing certain bomb shipments to Israel.

No one is fooled by people pretending that the reason they are voting for Trump is to save Palestinians. Shameless.

The class has just started. It's called books. Give me some time to read. Unlike all the dumb liberals on this board, I neither was born into wealth nor would I rather not enter into 10 years of indentured servitude to pay for some schmuck at Georgetown to tell me how to think when I can borrow their books for free and read in months what would take years to "learn" in a University setting.

If you think someone actually elected by American people is actually running the show as opposed to the person elected being run by the show, you are sadly mistaken.

Actually Lebanon did take in many Palestinians refugees. Hezbollah is primarily comprised of decedents of these refugees. Israel is attacking Lebanon now because of Hezbollah (and probably a land grab and to maintain chaos so the current Israeli govt stays in power, but let's pretend they are solely motivated by Hezbollah). Seeing what Israel is now doing to Lebanon why would any country accept the risk that comes with accepting refugees??

Oh - and also - the best way Israel can defend itself is to agree to a ceasefire. Hezbollah has said they will stop attacking Israel if there is a ceasefire in Gaza. Of course that might now be off the table but it is 100% clear that it is a falsehood to say that Israel is "defending itself" in this situation. They are the attacker. The aggressor who is terrifying the people of Lebanon. Precision targeting is not what is going on.

A ceasefire will stop it? Because Hezbollah did nothing before Oct 7?

I'm sorry but Lebanon has been shooting rockets into Israel by the thousands. Israel is not the aggressor in this instance. They moved 150,000 people out of the north because rockets have been raining down for almost a year. People aren't allowed to gather and are constantly running into bomb shelters. How long should the rockets continue to rain down until a country should push back? Asking for a friend.

I think Hezbollah has the right to defend itself and the entire world has a responsibility to defend children against the heartless bastards that are the IDF...

Nonsense, I merely spoke of the right for an entity to defend itself - an entity that has killed far fewer Children and has committed far fewer atrocities than the IDF.

Then I separately stated that the world has a responsibility to defend against the atrocities being committed by the IDF.

Now, Hezbollah (not the best group in the world) seems to be the only one defending the children of Gaza. That is a connection that you must have made and then went into a very defensive posture upon seeing that natural implication of what was said.

Calling Hezbollah “not the best group in the world” is quite the euphemism.

They don’t give a crap about Gaza, as it happens.

They want to pursue their own goals and Gaza is useful for that.
