Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
PP was right that there may have been a time when both Route 7 and Georgetown Pike were less crowded, Herndon was over capacity, Langley had space, and it made sense to send kids west of Springvale Road to Langley. That was 30 years ago. Now those roads are more congested with commuters heading east from Loudoun, Herndon has been expanded and has space, and Langley could be taking more Tysons kids. If the next Dranesville School Board member is from Herndon (Robyn Lady), not Great Falls, I could see her pushing through a boundary change. It's not like other members would stop her if she thought it made sense. |
There is no need for a boundary change. Langley is not overcrowded and Herndon would be overcrowded if there were a boundary change. If it is not broke, don't fix it. |
After its renovation, Herndon was 15% under capacity and could take more kids. Langley is also not overcrowded, but it could take more kids who live closer to Langley than the western part of Great Falls. These are simply facts. Whether the next School Board wants to change boundaries is up to them. |
There is no need. Why put families and students through this for no good reason? |
I don't know why you fret about something that isn't on the table, but neither do I understand why you suggest it will always be off the table. If the next School Board wants to change the boundaries, they won't have to try very hard to find a "good reason." |
. You are so cute! |
Could definitely see Robyn Lady wiping that smug smile off your face! |

The obsession about Langley by people whose kids don't even go there is... something to behold. I agree with the above poster(s). At this point, the only reason for changing the boundaries to send western GF to Herndon would be for social engineering, plain and simple. This is clearly what the posters who are fixated on it want. The resentment fueling this weird crusade would be kind of funny if it wasn't so pathetic.
Why don't you focus on the schools your kids actually attend? |
|
If Herndon now has surplus capacity and is closer to some neighborhoods than Langley, it’s just a question of efficiency. It has nothing to do with “social engineering.”
What part of that don’t you get? |
Herndon HS is now at 99% capacity. What part of that don't you get? https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/fcps.fts/viz/SY2022-23StudentMembershipDashboard/ReadMe |
You don't make boundary adjustments unless it is needed. Especially, when people have been in a boundary for thirty years. It disrupts families and communities. In this case, it is not needed. |
It was at 85% capacity last year. |
You could make an adjustment in the name of efficiency to reduce recurring transportation costs. FCPS expanded HHS so now more kids who live closer to the school could go there without it being overcrowded. That wasn’t the case in the mid-90s when they may have had no better alternative than to send kids who lived within a few miles of Loudoun County all the way to Langley. Anyway, you don’t get to rule out in advance what future School Boards may decide makes sense. |
But, it likely would overcrowd Herndon. And, it would also create a split feeder at the elementary level. |
Not necessarily. |
