PP here- Its relevant because its a possible (likely) motive for the shooting. A conservative school that likely didn't support this student in the way they thought they should be supported. In a state that is make life hell for trans people. It’s as relevant as any other motive, why bury it? I'm guessing you don't have an issue around reporting when a white supremicist shoots up a Black church? It’s just seems like disingenuious reporting by a serious new outlet.

why do you think the school was conservative? It is presbytarian...

Someone posted earlier that the school is PCA, not PCUSA. That’s the more conservative flavor of Presbyterian.

Thank you for posting that. I've been very confused about it since I thought Presbyterians were just less formal Episcopalians. Didn't realize that there's an entire world of offshoot flavors.

Covenant school is a feeder school for Christ Presbyterian Academy (CPA), also PCA associated. governor lees kids graduated from CPA. The same governor who is banning trans healthcare for minors, etc. really surprised this connection hasn’t been talked about. Any yes, the covenant families are likely republicans who support Lee and rep ogles.

Well this is interesting. Curious why nobody on the news mentioned this yet.

I could think of a million reasons why, but I’ll start with the shooter did this deliberately, as an act of revenge against people who personally wronged her and who use their power to wrong others like her. Doesn’t fit the “mental health” narrative if this was an act of stone cold revenge by someone who was 100% sane. And what else could it have been but revenge ? Few kids died, thankfully, but the minister’s kid was one of them.

She purchased 7 guns in a short timeframe... Legally. Perhaps something about that?

Really not relevant to the fact of the mass shooting.

You are mad and you are not going to take it anymore?? Do you condone this?? Because you are queer and these innocent people and kids did what to you and your bretheren exactly?

Because that is speculation at best. If it comes out in the manifesto that this was a reason it will be talked about.

Not sure why conservative lunkheads aren’t more nervous. Lots of queer people are mad as hell and aren’t going to take it anymore. I won’t be surprised if they fight back like this more going forward. It’s not like queer people are meek.

It does if she shooter was on testosterone.. It does if we define trans identity in some individuals as part of a constellation of issues that make them more vulnerable to depression and mental illness. (Most gun deaths in this country are suicides.)

We all knew something wasn’t quite right when we heard the school shooter was female. So yes, gender does matter in this context.

I do concur that banning anyone with 300+ nanograms per deciliter of testosterone from owning a gun would dramatically decrease gun incidents.

Can we put forth new gun legsilation to this effect?

...clearly you have no idea how mental illness works.

The shooter was probably (and rightly) feeling directly targeted by the anti-trans agenda being pushed by the Governor, the church and its network, and other Tennessee officials.

Then she should’ve gone after the politicians themselves not children and teachers and custodians. This shooter is just another hateful, horrible murderous coward, just like every other mass shooter.

Shooter probably had much easier access to the vehicle (the school pushing ideology) as opposed to the politicians, who are surrounded by armed security.

The Chief of police in Nashville said that had the parents reported her emotional issues to law enforcement, they could have ensured that she was not able to be in possession of any firearms.

No checks and balances.

She was 28 years old. It's no longer the parents' responsibility, it's the government's.
Best way to ensure she doesn't have them is to ban them from ever being produced in the first place. That would mean you'd have to turn in yours. Are your guns more important to you than those childrens', and their families', lives?

She was living with her parents. And, they knew she was not mentally well.

And, as for law abiding citizens who own firearms for self protection surrendering them because YOU want that......
Forget it.
I happen to live in a very rural area. Law enforcement is 20 minutes away, at best, if we need them. We own firearms for self-protection from intruders and predators.
That is true of 99% of gun owners.

Ehhhhh there’s owning a rifle or two and then there’s people who are sitting on rifle hoards to rival what a small principality owns. Some of you people are out of your effing minds in regards to guns and have seriously lost touch with reality.

Or...they viewed themselves as an avenging hero standing up for other trans people. This school, this sect, was pushing this agenda, and the shooter had personal experience with it. Murder is never justified, particularly that of innocent children, but let’s just say if there was hate there, it may have been earned.

Yeah. Like I said, a coward. Kids and school staff are easy targets.

Yeah I get that. I’m sure this shooter experienced a lot of hardship in their life from the church, school. It wouldn’t surprise me at all. Doesn’t change the fact that they are a hateful coward, though, to go after innocent kids and school staff.
