It does if she shooter was on testosterone.. It does if we define trans identity in some individuals as part of a constellation of issues that make them more vulnerable to depression and mental illness. (Most gun deaths in this country are suicides.)

We all knew something wasn’t quite right when we heard the school shooter was female. So yes, gender does matter in this context.

Since you're arguing that this matters then one of the clear answers should be robust mental health screenings of any individual who owns guns, has access to guns, or attempts to purchase weapons.
Contact your Republican members of Congress and demand that.

OMG - this family is beautiful! Truly lovely and perfect - each one of them.

So sad and such a terrible terrible loss for this to happen to a family like that.

Yes, what a lovely looking family. Thank you for posting, I should send them a sympathy card to their church.

It would be less tragic if they were ugly? Wtf!?

Explain why you know the name Gabby Petito, if you think the victim’s attractiveness is irrelevant.

It is relevant.

Yep. I noticed that people responded to now photogenic the family was. While I would've felt terrible for them even if each family member looked like Qasimodo...though if they were deformed hunchbacks, nobody would be posting their photos on social media for sympathy.

We are where we are because the Democrats won't commonsense gun laws, but the Republicans want no gun laws. Obviously we are going to fall to the right of common sense by a large margin.

Don't have to needs to move all the way to the left and outlaw guns entirely and then maybe we can have a conversation about middle ground where we actually all want to be.

What we are doing is not working

The Chief of police in Nashville said that had the parents reported her emotional issues to law enforcement, they could have ensured that she was not able to be in possession of any firearms.

No checks and balances.

She was 28 years old. It's no longer the parents' responsibility, it's the government's.
Best way to ensure she doesn't have them is to ban them from ever being produced in the first place. That would mean you'd have to turn in yours. Are your guns more important to you than those childrens', and their families', lives?

She was living with her parents. And, they knew she was not mentally well.

And, as for law abiding citizens who own firearms for self protection surrendering them because YOU want that......
Forget it.
I happen to live in a very rural area. Law enforcement is 20 minutes away, at best, if we need them. We own firearms for self-protection from intruders and predators.
That is true of 99% of gun owners.

There is an entire world of potential gun reform out there beyond taking guns away from people in rural areas who purchase a firearm for personal protection. But you’re too ignorant to even be open to discussion of this because you are too obsessed with your gun to think straight.

Let's repeat:

It seems the answer that the 2A folks are deflecting to is mental health.

As such, one of the clear answers should be robust mental health screenings of any individual who owns guns, has access to guns, or attempts to purchase weapons.

2A folks, you need to either agree to this or shut up and f** off for being completely disingenuous and FOS.

Contact your Republican members of Congress and demand it, or shut up and get out of the way so that the rest of us can solve this.

The 'entire world of potential gun reform' has been blocked at every step with absolutely zero offerings, compromises or counterproposals by the NRA and the GOP. They are the problem.

What law did you previously support being put in place that would have prevented this shooting?

I love the UK laws. To me, they are just common sense.

I kinda believe PP, too. My experience - I don't have any family members who transitioned but I do know some high school students who transitioned. Majority have autism/on the spectrum/have some other types of mental health issues. Their brains are just wired very differently. You can't necessarily reason with them the same way you could a neurotypical person. They see things differently and because they are rigid, aren't as open to other viewpoints.

Pretty sure the only rigid person, unwilling to be open to other viewpoints, is you.

I'm a cis woman who is neurodivergent and has a VERY different wiring than people like you. That doesn't make me "rigid", it makes me MYSELF. The only people who are rigid are the ones who refuse to acknowledge the world outside their comfy box of neurotypical privilege.

I have no understanding of what it's like to be trans but wow, I know the stink of stigma and prejudice when I see it.

PP here- Its relevant because its a possible (likely) motive for the shooting. A conservative school that likely didn't support this student in the way they thought they should be supported. In a state that is make life hell for trans people. It’s as relevant as any other motive, why bury it? I'm guessing you don't have an issue around reporting when a white supremicist shoots up a Black church? It’s just seems like disingenuious reporting by a serious new outlet.

why do you think the school was conservative? It is presbytarian...

Someone posted earlier that the school is PCA, not PCUSA. That’s the more conservative flavor of Presbyterian.

Thank you for posting that. I've been very confused about it since I thought Presbyterians were just less formal Episcopalians. Didn't realize that there's an entire world of offshoot flavors.

Covenant school is a feeder school for Christ Presbyterian Academy (CPA), also PCA associated. governor lees kids graduated from CPA. The same governor who is banning trans healthcare for minors, etc. really surprised this connection hasn’t been talked about. Any yes, the covenant families are likely republicans who support Lee and rep ogles.

Well this is interesting. Curious why nobody on the news mentioned this yet.

Maybe no one is talking about it because they don’t want to suggest this is a legitimate reason to murder innocent children. Sorry your governor doesn’t want to pay for your new boobs, that doesn’t give you a right to kill innocent kids - no matter who their parent voted for.

Because that is speculation at best. If it comes out in the manifesto that this was a reason it will be talked about.

Not sure why conservative lunkheads aren’t more nervous. Lots of queer people are mad as hell and aren’t going to take it anymore. I won’t be surprised if they fight back like this more going forward. It’s not like queer people are meek.

Wanting guns and guns and more guns is not a legitimate reason to terate so many mass shooting slaughtering innocent school children.
