That was an article I read: "The Girl Scouts are suing the Boy Scouts, saying the organization’s inclusive rebranding effort has caused all sorts of consumer confusion from mistaken enrollment in the Boy Scouts to misinformation about a merge of the two groups."
You can make everyone happy. Boys scouts should sue them for causing stress. |
| Let's just have "Scouts." |
| Link? |
| Aren't they both not-for-profit organizations? Seems like this kind of suit would be uncommon in that arena (putting aside the other odd things about it). |
That's the gist of the lawsuit (which is a trademark infringement dispute). That by rebranding themselves as "Scouts," they are implying that they cover all of scouting, and it's causing confusion among people who mistakenly believe Girl Scouts of America is also a part of the BSA organization. |

Good for girl scouts. This was a stupid move by the board of BSA. |
|
*rolls eyes* GS was only founded because BS refused to include them.
They should take this as a win and become the Scouts or Scouts of America. GS can give BS some tips on running a better product line and BS can give GS tips on better merit badges. Because the GS badges seriously suck. Childcare, needlecraft, sewing, and folk dancing, ffs?
|
| When the Mormons and other churches broke from BSA and formed their own youth organizations, BSA found themselves strapped for cash (via membership). Instead of working to rebuild their own program, they decided to make a grab for cash (via membership) from GSA. GSA is upset that BSA is trying to undermine the GSA organization for their own gain. |

Good. I think a lot of little girls got the idea that boy scouts is now cooler than GS. I think it's partly sexism that we encourage little girls to do things that boys do, but never encourage boys to sign up for "girly" things like dance.
I loved Girl Scouts and was very involved through hs even. |
Agree! |
You are seriously ignorant if you think that's representative of GSA. Those aren't even current badges. |
I'm married to an Eagle Scout. He can sew really well and learned through BSA. It's a needed skill for everyone. He hems our daughter's pants as well as my drapes! Don't put down sewing. It's taught in the military too. I don't see the issue with childcare or folk dancing either, but they should be offered to both sexes. |
| That’s very petty of them. The Girl Scouts do not welcome boys nor do I believe they encourage family participation like the Cub Scouts do. |
On the contrary I don't think we encourage the girls enough. Where are the riflery, hunting, business administration, geology, aviation, sailing, chemistry merit badges and courses for the GS? |
