| My 7th grade daughter told me that some anonymous kid started an Instagram page called “ insert school name here” tea. Kids send in gossip about other kids and the senders name is removed. Pretty much every kid in the school follows it. This is horrifying and i think this might actually be common for other schools. The sad thing is that I don’t think there’s anything that can really be done to stop it. |
You can get it taken down. Report it to Instagram. They'll take care of it. |
| Also tell the principal so they can send warnings to all students to not do that. |
| My 6th grade niece just got in trouble for starting a similar account in another area. Some parents figured out that my niece and her friends were behind the page and reported it to both their child’s homeroom teacher and the administration and parents were contacted and Instagram took the page down after it was discovered that the people running it were under the age of 13 and not following Instagram’s age rules. |
Yes Something can be done and should be done. Is it at a private or public school? |
Yep, report it to instagram. |
A better warning would be an email to all the parents letting them know about the page and suggesting they all do a coordinated surprise check of their kids smart phones and social media tonight |
Can you tell us what school please? Parents need to know this stuff because if kids are writing mean stuff they need to know about it. |
| free speech |
Children who are too young to sign up for instagram do not have free speech on instagram. |
| I think almost every middle school likely has something like this. |
|
Nope. If they are in a private school they can get kicked out because most private schools have a handbook that specifically say ls conduct like this in or outside of school can be a cause for dismissal from school. Read your handbook. I don’t know how they handle this in public school. Also if parents don’t tell schools what’s going on they don’t know and they can’t take any action. Parents complain about schools but if the school doesn’t know they can’t do anything about it. |
Do you have your own instagram? I searched for my kid's school by typing in "(school name) tea" and found that a page that existed but the anonymous owner saying they were going inactive and not posting anymore. There are also "ships" pages - harder to find, but if you are on instagram and follow your kid, you can look at what your kid is following. |
| notify instagram, and tell the school. the guidance counselor will talk to the kids, or at least at ours did. They approached it in an education issue, teaching them how to responsibily use the internet/social media. |
