Anyone have any thoughts/help for goalie coaching training? Camps, clinics and private coaches?
DS is looking to expand his skill set and his current travel team does not do any real specific goalie training. He is U12. Thank you!! |
What club are you at now? |
Most of the big clubs offer goalkeeper specific training. Some will allow non-club members to signup. There are also summer clinics or residential camps. If really interested you can hire a private coach but it’s more cost effective to join a clubs existing program. |
Thank you. He is in one of the clubs and they do some goalie training 1x every couple weeks. I know some clubs have more intensive training for goalies but his does not. I can check around and see if any of the other clubs allow a non member to train. Any thoughts on private coaching, does it help? |
We have been with a few clubs (sigh) and the quality of club keeper training seems to vary greatly. At times we have pursued private training and it has always been more focused and higher quality. Two guys I would recommend are Chris Torres at totalfutbol and Larry Dolph at just4keepers (google em). Both are excellent. |
Thank you, we were actually looking at A clinic with just forgoalkeepers and this is helpful. |

Is he playing futsal? The year round futsal teams always need keepers. Lots of action in futsal especially for keepers because the scores are so high and there are so many shots. |
NP. Looks great but so far away. I wish there were good options in Montgomery County. I’ve been trying to find a good trainer for my u11 since last winter. It’s so frustrating. Fortunately he does get weekly training through his club but it’s in a group where the kids range greatly in ability. Thankfully he also has a coach who is very supportive and knowledgeable about the keeper position and that has really helped. |
What's the best way to learn to make a good (long) goal kick? Is it just to kick a lot to improve power/strength or does it involve executing specific ball striking skills? I've watched quite a few YouTube videos and tried the things they teach but it didn't appear to make much difference... or maybe I wasn't watching the right videos? ![]() |
Combo of good run up, foot plant, solid strike. Practice practice practice |
watched one video where the guy taught a woman who's never played before to make great goals kicks in 15 minutes.... worked on every technique he demonstrated with my 12-yo to no avail. |
