Goalie Training

If your GK is middle school or older, Ed Brown at Academy One Goalkeeping. I wish DS had started with him sooner. He holds training in Germantown, Arlington and Baltimore on the weekends.

Sean Lanigan
Edward Brown

We’ve really struggled with finding a good keeper coach. We’ve also had mixed experiences with clubs.

DD trained with Edward Brown years ago and he was great at ensuring that she developed great technique. She enjoyed working with him a lot.

What was impressive about Ed Brown to you?

You need to have strong hip flexors. Twelve year olds don’t develop those overnight. Also, you should be teaching him how to build out out of the back, not play a 50/50 long ball.

A few things we like. DS has really improved with crosses which is an area he really struggled. I like that Ed will watch your player at tournaments to provide feedback which is helpful. Everything is a flat fee for the year and we come out ahead over the amount of money we spent with other trainers. Finally, he has really improved DS’s confidence and reduced his anxiety about playing keeper.

Perhaps I am projecting a bit, but I am kind of fed up with the complete lack of administrative and business skills that soccer clubs and coaches seem to exhibit. I won’t get into the details of any particular club or person, but you don’t have to read very many posts on this board to believe this is a shared viewpoint. I think the parental money backing this sport brings out the worst and the weakest in clubs and coaches.

I’m not following what this response has to do with the question PP answered regarding specific skills Ed Brown provided to their child. As far as business practices go, I’m still not following. For Ed Brown in particular, years ago we paid him directly for the services rendered. He set a price, we accepted, and he provided specific training to our DD.

Yes but it’s hit or miss on quality.

From your response it is clear you are no longer in need or involved with his service. Those who are recently probably know what the inference was. Nothing against the person or service, just the business management practices.

This is a weird response. My son is one of Ed’s players and I’m not understanding.

A lot of great goalie coaches in the area.

Mid-Atlantic Sports Academy have an amazing German Goalie Coach named Christian. My daughter got a lot from him.
