St. James complex in Springfield

Grand opening Sat. Wonder about the size of the field and its availability. Anyone know about leagues being run there?

The field is giant. Not sure about whether they are doing a league.

The indoor field is a game changer for the winter months. I hope they’re doing a full field indoor league.

My kids both want to form their own indoor teams this winter. It would be great to have another venue. Most of their friends are all spread among various Clubs in the area and they miss playing together.

Judging by how much everything costs there, I'm guessing your kids would have to pay a fortune to enter a team into their league.

Correct! Plus, clearly one person affiliated with them just wrote this entire thread! STOP being a SOCK PUPPET! SO annoying!

Is everything there available only to members? Or is it pay as you go for the water park, ice rink, etc?

Members only get a very few things with their membership (fitness center, I think pool access), and slightly discounted rates for the other things. Nonmembers can pay as you go to the water park, etc.

If only their member services were as good as their PR operation. I joined months ago and can't even get the staff to respond to a simple email question. Planning to quit immediately after grand opening unless they turn things around by Saturday.

Not related to soccer, but we looked into this place because they have two ice surfaces, but the amount they charge for ice time ($16 per 30-minute freestyle or $110 for 10 sessions, if I recall correctly) is much higher than other rinks around here. Looks like an amazing facility, though.

The would be idiots not to do a winter league, many in the area suck and I'm so tired of futsal.

I went to the Grand Opening today. The facility is gorgeous. Everything is white, well lit, and clean (for now). It must have cost a fortune, and I hope they can recoup their investment, or it will either close in a hurry, change owners, or need a different business model.

Their ability to provide info was not very good. The website is not very useful, though they said it was getting an update in the next few days.

I did get what appears to be a pricing list for all activities there. For example, it says "Men's Open Futsal League", once per week, for 8 weeks. Price - $864-Members and $1080-Non-members. That's got to be for the whole team, because no one is paying $100/hr/individual to play futsal.

On the turf, it looks like they'll have both 7v7 and 11v11 for youth and adults, both rec and coed. 8 week session for men's open or women's open division is listed at $2000/member, or $2500/non-member. No one could tell me how to find a team, whether there are existing teams looking for players, or when the season begins and ends.

For soccer clinics, no one could tell me who the coaches were. Not helpful.

No one could tell me where I could find the schedule for the turf field's use. There certainly is no schedule of events on their website.

No one could tell me if the turf field is available for rental when it's not in use. There's no way they have that thing scheduled 24/7, so I'm sure there are times when it will be sitting empty and earning no revenue. That wouldn't be smart, to me.

A 22-week hockey season is listed at $9k, so that must be per team. No info on how to enter a team or find an existing one looking for players.

Ice rinks, gym, weights and training space, aerobics rooms, pilates equipment, and squash courts all looked top notch. Excellent viewing stands for the turf field, ice rinks, and pool.

No info on how to book anything for outside parties, for example if young kids wanted to have a birthday party at the water park.

I don't get the allure of a glassed in spa right off the entrance. Who wants to see people getting a pedicure right across from the restaurant?

At least 6 video golf bays, 8 squash courts, batting cages. It seems to me like a lot of this facility will go unused for the majority of the day, except the gymnastics area since it had classes scheduled during the day for children not yet in school.

Restaurant and pro shop were still under construction.

It’s a beautiful facility, but I think it’s in the wrong location for their target demographic - high SES, sports-loving families. I hope it does well, but I think it would be better situated in Western Fairfax/Loudoun. I think more families in the area could afford a county rec center membership vs a St James membership.
