St. James complex in Springfield

The places where lots of people have the income to afford the ST James are also the places where there isn't enough land to build the St James. Although I am surprised they put in in Springfield and not out in Loudoun somewhere.

I can’t justify spending over 3 times what an annual family membership to the Fairfax County rec centers would cost. The County has nice facilities - indoor pools, a skating rink, indoor water park. Granted, they don’t have ALL the amenities at ALL rec centers, but with an annual pass I can go to any of them. The St. James is shiny and new and has a lot of activities under one roof, but I don’t think it’s for me.

I was primarily interested in the water park/splash pad they had there but their website sucks and I can't seem to find any information on it; not even pictures. I was wondering about pricing, availability (do you have to be a member? if so, how much?)... you know just the basic questions a user might have???

The "active entertainment and waterpark" is complementery BEFORE 3pm Monday thru Thursday for members.

It is $15 PER HOUR PER PERSON after 3pm for members and all day for non members from September to May.

It is $20 PER HOUR PER PERSON after 3pm for mebers and all day for non members for June, July, and August.

I agree that they've built it in the wrong place. The median income for Springfield is around 95k. These aren't the people who can shell out hundreds of dollars a month for a facility like this.

This is extremely disappointing because we were told the water park would be free for members when we took a tour in July.

Does anyone have an update as to how they are enjoying (or not) their membership?

I visited yesterday for the first time and it was pretty empty. At first I was excited about joining but then I saw that they charge additional fees for almost everything. It makes me less excited about going and doing 3 different activities with my kids/husband in one day, which I feel like should be part of its appeal (and the advantage of having everything in one place).

We joined in July and were very disappointed when the facility opened and were told we would have to pay extra for the water park (except M-Th 9-3) and assume this will apply to the entertainment center (which isn’t opened yet). They started to charge for the rock climbing wall but I think there was a lot of backlash and they quickly changed that policy and now there are reasonable member hours to use. I have reached out to member services to complain and discussed it with one of the ambassadors. We are willing to give it some time, but if they don’t change their policy, and continue to nickle and dime we will probably cancel our membership.

Their website is atrocious if one wants to find what is actually offered and when, and how much it costs. No transparency is not good. How am I supposed to find info about league play if I can't easily find information about it?

St James, I want you to succeed, but this info needs to be online and readily available.

A former colleague was on the development team and left before opening. He said that it has been a mess all along, and doesn't anticipate it being open very long.

The depth of FCV parents' pockets will help determine how well this business model will work, assuming they all want to make the drive there.

They won't. If FCV stops Loudoun based practices, there will be a mass exit. But, TSJ will make up for it be taking SYC and other local Fairfax club's top talent.

What would the draw be? Nice field? Why leave the devil you know for something that seems ill thought out and financially risky. I'm not willing to pay more for an untried quantity just for a few non rained out practices.

FCV will now be far more expensive an option than other clubs because of the St. James. FCV has essentially left one of the most wealthy counties in the United States, not to mention the region for Springfield.

Oh, and not just Springfield, but an industrial park in Springfield.

What’s the draw? A single indoor turf field and the guest club dues on the east coast?

Price is staying exactly the same.
