Well, she has no real education. Fundies like Anna are home-schooled by mothers with no college education themselves. The focus of her education would have been the bible and learning her house wifely duties. And she was taught to defer to her father as a girl, and her husband after marriage: the whole "umbrella of protection" nonsense. So, no education and kept sheltered at home, surrounded by fundies. The poor girl never had a chance. |
I wonder if she was pushed into the marriage by her parents. She would be marrying someone famous and maybe they thought she/they would profit financially from it. |
It wouldn't surprise me. Anna's family is poor. The Duggars were prominent in the community and well off. |
OBVIOUSLY, this is somewhat “common” knowledge that this is exactly what happened |
Yep. Anna is a grown woman who is choosing to stay with a known sexual abuser of children. I don’t know why so many of you insist on defending her. She is putting her children at risk. |
I haven’t really kept up with them since the oldest kids were young and cute. I read up on this every now and then when a scandal occurs and don’t really know the ins and outs of all of the weddings, and who is who and their backgrounds. It makes sense if the family was poor that they were hoping marrying Josh would be marrying up, poor woman. |
I defend her because I understand what it’s like to grow up in a fundamentalist church and where she is in and grew up in is 10 times worse than what I grew up in. This is not your regular variety Christianity or even strict Christianity. What she is in, grew up in, and is surrounded by, is a cult and cult members. As a society we throw the term brainwashed around but that is exactly what she is in the legitimate meaning. She is in a cult and when you start reading up on what it takes to a) understand you’re in a cult and 2) leave a cult are two enormous mental and spiritual hurdles that she has to jump through. We know that she’s wrong, we know that she can leave but that would require her questioning the entire foundation of who she is and what she has grown up in, the literal spiritual lives of her and her children. She doesn’t have a support system that can enable her to leave. She depends wholy on Josh. This is why I defend her and I pray that people step up in her life to help her leave the marriage, if not the cult. |
Is she aware that the Biden administration didn’t raid his car dealership two years ago? |
| I hate that they're claiming he has a porn addiction as if that's a reason for having kiddie porn. Tons of people have porn addictions who would be completely repulsed at the idea of looking at kiddie porn. |
It sounds like her childhood may have been difficult, and that sucks. But when you become a parent, you have a responsibility to protect your children. That responsibility exists no matter how crappy your childhood may have been. If you choose to ignore the red flags and let your children down, that’s on you. |
Does anyone think that a computer monitoring program called "Covenant Eyes" is the most sophisticated monitoring program out there? Also, I recall from earlier episodes that Anna's dad does prison ministry, and Anna went along with him to minister to prisoners. I suspect she will feel that Josh is not beyond redemption and will stay with him and visit him in prison. |
Adding that this is bad to the point that physical abuse isn’t even grounds for divorce with a fundamental church. If I am not mistaken only outright adultery, with physical sex, is. Part of the reason that my eyes were opened to such an extreme church is that I had to convince my mom that it was OK for her to leave my abusive dad. He would knock around, threaten her with a knife and a gun and she still felt guilty about leaving him. What kind of church condones that? Only extreme radical and cult like churches do. I use the term church but it’s not real christianity. This is why I defend Anna, because I understand how difficult it is and how these women are treated and yes, brainwashed. |
People within the cult have come out and said they never would let their own daughters within spitting distance of Josh and that many members and former members have offered her support to leave. Several have said what you wrote no longer really applies and there would be many cheering her on. They HAVE stepped up to help her leave and she says NO. If people within the cult think you're nuts for staying, can you really claim brainwashing at this point? They believe she is actively continuing to put her children in harms way and has made that choice, yes CHOICE, consciously and for many years. I think there is more of a financial thing here to be honest. Josh Duggar, the firstborn of a famous and wealthy fundie family, should have had the pick of tons of brides. But he didn't he ended up with some unknown who lived with her huge family in a double-wide. All of the other cult members wouldn't let him marry their daughters because he was a known deviant, and Anna was what he could get because apparently she and her family didn't give a sh*t. |
| Why did Josh and Anna sell their farmhouse and move into a warehouse near the parent's house. According to the internet it doesn't even have windows! They have apparently been in the warehouse 2 years! |
They have no source of income. He lost his DC job, the car lot closed, I think this was a chance at free rent. |
