| I agree with PP - time for Cheh to move along and make way for some fresh ideas. |
She didn't lift one single finger to help Murch when Bowser was playing political games with its renovation until the furor from her constituents got too loud for her to ignore, and her kids went to Murch. So let's not pat her on the back for that. |
Anyone notice a trend? Reactive and ineffectual should be her middle name. She’s 71. It’s probably time for her to retire and let someone else have a go. |
It's really weird that you think that because I'm pushing back against your ignorance that I'm a Cheh supporter or trying to do her favors. In a healthy democracy, it's important for people to make well-reasoned decisions that are grounded in reality. Right now, you're mad at Cheh for something she has no control over. You're mad that she didn't do stuff. You're argument, after all the back-and-forth we've had, is still "I dunno, she should've done something!" as if that would've magically made things better. This reason for being mad at Mary Cheh is not grounded in reality. You are, of course, free to hate her for irrational reasons - that's your prerogative. But you should not be surprised when people push back against your irrational views, and it's particularly odd that you think that people pointing out your sloppy "reasoning" are Cheh staffers or in league with her. Your stance is akin to not voting for Eleanor Holmes Norton because a pothole in front of your house hasn't been filled, or not voting for Karl Racine because the Circulator is going to cost $1 to ride again soon. It's completely nonsensical. Again, it's your prerogative to hold absurd nonsensical views. Hopefully others reading this thread will find this discussion useful as they make an informed decision at the ballot box. And your non sequitur about Trump is bizarre. Granted, I haven't read all 50 pages of pearl-clutching, but for at least the past 8 pages since I started posting, nobody has suggested you to move. Get a grip. |
She managed to get Murch moved up in the queue and, just like with Hearst, once the project is in the DGS hopper, it is really out of her hands in terms of what she can "control" |
I agree with you. That is the extent of her ability influence. It is not however the extent of influence that can be brought to bare to achieve better outcomes. Other people who are more attentive, skilled and adept can achieve better and her constituents deserve better than mediocrity. |
I think your expectations for the "power" of a councilmember are severely misplaced. |
What specifically would you do differently. What levers do you think are available that can be pulled? If you think you can do it better, by all means, run for the job. |
| Why is it that Mary Cheh and her defenders want you to believe that no one could do better than she can? Normalizing mediocrity. |
Which council member does a better job navigating the incompetent and often corrupt DC agencies than Cheh? |
I'll ask the question again, the one you have refused to answer: What should she have done differently? Who should she have complained to that she otherwise hasn't? What purse strings should she have withheld that she hasn't? I'll wait here for the answer that will never come. Why? Because you won't have one. |
| Man o man, Cheh’s defenders are obtuse. She really has to go. According to the Cleveland Park listserve, the park has been out of commission for three years, not two… |
|
Cheh should definitely be accountable for the environmental travesty of destroying a once shady, sylvan green space and turning it into a heat island. Hundreds of trees have been removed and a concrete complex has been built on the south side of Hearst. Once a carbon sink, Hearst has seen its carbon footprint increase substantially. Cheh owns this, and at the very least she needs to demand that DGS/DPR develop an accelerated plan to reforest the park, including the slopes!

We've never found Mary Cheh to be as brilliant as she believes she is, but in recent years it's become clear that Cheh is more stubborn than smart. She certainly no longer sweats the details, not just delegating them to her staff but relying on her staff to lead her. An unfortunate case in point is a meeting that she held with some constituents in Ward 3 on the impact of Comprehensive Plan changes several months ago. It became clear to the participants that she had outsourced the whole issue to her chief of staff (a member of the Smart Growth cult), who proceeded to hector her constituents and even walked back some of the statements that Cheh made. A fly on the wall would have confused who was the council member and who was the staff member. |
And that is Cheh's fault because, what, she took too long to wack out the weeds, or pour the concrete or construct the girders? Seriously, what do you think a councilperson's role is in a municipal construction project? |
