Mary Cheh has turned Cleveland Park/Cleveland Park North into her personal political asset

Yeah, but what can Cheh even do about that? A private real estate owner decided to begin accepting housing vouchers. There's literally no role for Cheh to play in that deal, aside from advocating for more wrap-around services for the voucher holders.

Sedgwick Gardens is a private entity that decided to accept vouchers. What did Cheh have to do with that?

That’s fine. I hope that people who don’t mind homeless projects in neighborhood that don’t need them keep quiet about gentrification. After all that’s just Nimbyism of a different flavor.

It's not so much that facilities are being added to Ward 3. It's that they are all in a very highly concentrated part of Ward 3.

Where else would you put them?

Near their families/ churches/ support networks?

How would you feel it tomorrow we move you to a neighborhood you've never been to/ know no one?

Lots of us support the pool at Hearst.

What makes you think Ward 3 “doesn’t need” homeless shelters? Do you really think there are no homeless people here?

So, not in Ward 3. Got it.

Pool knocked into Hearst Playground despite whiny entitled neighbors objections.

All these projects less than one mile from each other.

Fixed that for you - most folks with kids that I know are very much looking forward to finally having a pool in the neighborhood.

I'm not an immediate neighbor and would like a pool, but it's rude to say that people who care about Hearst Park are "whiny and entitled." Have you seen the clear-cutting and removal of over 100 trees from Hearst, something that DPR NEVER discussed with the community? The cutting completely changes the look and feel of the park, with impacts to shade, views and slope erosion. Why??!!

Wow- sounds like you are kinda entitled yourself. I’m a neighbor who didn’t object to the pool. I Think the current plan is a good compromise. My bet is your kids are as brash, rude and bratty as you are. Welcome to the neighborhood.

The Hearst pool sucks for about five houses along Quebec street, and maybe a few more houses nearby. For everyone else it seems great. I get up a block and a half away and am jealous they are getting a pool! I am sad to see so many trees cut down though.

*grew up

( I would’ve loved to have a pool there!)

I can’t imagine being upset that homeless people in our city are getting shelter and an opportunity to get back on your feet.

OP, you should try volunteering at a soup kitchen some time. It’s really eye opening. Some people are mentally ill, some are professionals down on their luck, and everything in between.

This was discussed ad nauseum in the 180 page pool thread.

The neighbors of this park were never engaged with this park until the pool proposal came up.

There was no clear cutting (and yes I've been by) - the city removed a bunch of relatively worthless weed trees, many of which were choked with vines which is something that the immediate neighbors, if they'd actually been engaged with issues around the park, could have dealt with themselves over the years.

But since the park has mostly been unused except for some illegal off leash dogs running around on the soccer field it is possible the neighbors never actually noticed.

And BTW there have long been water run-off issues at the park which you would know if you'd ever tried to use the soccer field for more than a dog park.
