In this case, perhaps they will find the guides took the most risky option, putting the group in unnecessary danger. |
| That Tunnel Creek article was excellent. I can’t remember the last time I was so glued to a story. I don’t remember hearing about it when it happened, but I was deep in babies and toddlers in 2012. Very illuminating into how the group dynamic can affect things, even when individually people have reservations or know better. I’m not really much of a skier but I have been in situations where, because of the group dynamics, it felt hard to say “No I don’t think we should do this.” In both this story and the Tahoe story, my heart breaks for the survivors and loved ones. Surely we can take lessons away without casting blame. |
Judgment is subjective. I'm so happy for you that you can sit on your couch and judge people's decisions after the fact. |
Laissez-faire? |
What an odd choice of words. Unnecessary danger. Like taking this trip in the first place? |

DP, and it's a completely reasonable word choice. It's objectively true that they took one of the riskier options from an avalanche perspective (though not the riskiest). With respect to avalanches alone, this means they took on unnecessary danger. They might have been weighing other risks we don't know about, though. There is a surviving guide, so very likely the information will come out. |
One could say starting out amidst the reports and weather forecasts was the first of many mistakes and bad decisions. |
Please link to any article, blog, or other source stating that the decision they made was reasonable given the forecast. We’ll wait. |

Judgmental cows with nothing better to do than monday morning quarterback about things they don't understand. Really disgusting how they trash victims. |
Oh you again. As if it took some sort of visionary genius to not go out in those conditions in the first place. |
To the person/ people that are saying the judgement to leave as this storm came in is Monday morning quarterbacking or is being judgmental, I remind you that if you cannot learn from others mistakes.... you will repeat their errors. Hope you are not big skiers.

Do you think people are victims if they get harmed or die when they choose to go for a jog just before a hurricane, tornado, earthquake, bomb threat, etc? |
