It's objectively true that they took one of the riskier options from an avalanche perspective (though not the riskiest). With respect to avalanches alone, this means they took on unnecessary danger. They might have been weighing other risks we don't know about, though. There is a surviving guide, so very likely the information will come out.[/quote]
