British people are incredibly rude. Either they are polite passive aggressive rude thinking they're fooling you, or they are outwardly rude. |
We haven't been able to afford international travel- but I've kind of enjoyed all of the places we've visited in the US. Everywhere is a little different with interesting regional and cultural differences. I loved Santa Fe, Northern Michigan, Lake Tahoe, and Hawaii. I like the museums in the bigger cities- Dallas has some amazing art museums, and I like the Walker in Minneapolis. I agree that Denver wasn't great- crowded.
Once we're empty nesters, for starters, I want to go to Montreal, Paris (just because I've never been), Barcelona, Italy, Scotland, Ireland, etc. I've also heard that Portugal is really nice. |
Not the PP, but all the carribean islands are in despair except for the resorts. The government has abandoned it's people who live in poverty, crime is rampant and the police officers don't care and are not there to help you, there are NO women walking around that I saw anywhere/any time, drugs, sex trafficking, bed bugs. It all sucks. |
Yeah, I’m the same. I can understand why some people would like it, but it’s not for me. I also disliked Rome; got robbed and had many instances of people just being unbelievably rude. Amazing history and architecture though. I’ll cut them a bit of a break though; I’d imagine dealing with tourists constantly would wear you down. On the flip side, despite warnings to the contrary, I found people in Paris to be very pleasant. I also spent time in Portland Oregon, and the constant drizzle when I was there was soul sucking. |
Completely agree. |
Yes because civil war generals are definitely the same thing as Nazi war criminals. Not. |

I would put them in pretty similar categories. I don’t know that the institution of slavery much less violent, horrific, and evil than the Third Reich. Back to the question in hand, I visited Turkey recently and their rampant blind nationalism is pretty offensive set against what they did to the Greeks, Armenians and Kurds. It definitely put me off going again. |
If you get to Paris, try to visit other parts of France. Paris is over packed to an unpleasant degree while you can visit great places with less tourism in other parts of the country. |
NOLA has character. I used to live down there as a kid and went back for a wedding recently. Really enjoyed the visit. |
Turkey sounds like Russia. I’ve no interest in going to either places. |

Love that you've been to Northern Michigan - way under appreciated, but that's also part of the charm. Great empty nest ideas. Montreal is Europe without the jet lag. Okay, not quite, but pretty damn close. I've visited in summer/winter and would love to get DH to go for a long weekend just to shop for their fab winter wear. |
Oh really? What nightmare do you life in? Your ignorance is staggering. Stayed with a family in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Went to local beaches, ate at local restaurants. Fantastic time. Have also been to Tobago. Stayed at an inn away from the cruise port. Quiet beaches, great local restaurants with grilled fish & local vegetables |
