We aren't walkable. We drive our kids or carpool. Crossing University, Conn. or Viers Mill isn't particularly safe, especially during rush hour and several kids have been hit by cars. |
Rezoning to Woodward isn't the only option. They could move Woodlin to BCC, and move a BCC feeder to freed-up space at WJ. They could move Singer to Northwood. There are going to be many possible maps drawn up and none of them are going to be unanimously popular. |
DP. You are walkable. What you aren't, unfortunately, is safe to walk. |
Yes, any changes at Whitman will be marginal and it is hard to see how that would meaningfully affect the level if diversity at the school, unfortunately. |
Unless they split some of Ashburton or NB off to Whitman. There are some apartments near Montgomery Mall that would imncrease diversity at Whitman and WJ/Woodward could pull more from the east. |
They are in the walk zone for WJ. |
+1 if they move Woodlin to BCC and KPES to Einstein (and then another feeder out of Einstein) that improves diversity on net, and minimizes distance. It will make a lot of people really angry though. |
It won't minimize distance unless the KPES island next to Woodward goes to Woodward. |
They can split-articulate KPES any number of ways to achieve that. |
Yes, but the point is that there would be a split articulation. Considering the options, I think it's highly likely that there will be multiple new split articulations. It seems basically unavoidable, given the geographical, capacity, and demographic factors. And honestly, I don't think it would be the worst possible outcome. |
I agree, it's the only way this will work. I went to school in a countywide district where split articulations were the norm, and it was fine. |
I’m in Flora Singer zone so this is potentially against my self interest but I think they should move Flora Singer to Northwood and KP to Einstein. Geographically and demographically makes sense. |
If they move KP out of WJ and over to Einstein, that leaves more seats to fill at WJ. |
I don't consider close to two miles walkable in freezing cold, snow, ice (though thankfully we haven't had much snow), with very few sidewalks and busy roads. |
They can move a BCC feeder to WJ. |
